OK, in retrospect my last post was a bit dismissive and I feel a bit bad about that so I'm gonna try to explain what I mean.

I'm not trying to wind you up Vermi, for real. I don't want you to feel bad. I know what you're getting at, people should try to be nice even if they're annoyed, try to be the better person, and all that, right? In "normal" circumstances, like if you've had a disagreement with a mate, that's absolutely true.

But imagine you're sat down with someone who's in an ethnic minority and they're talking to you about how angry they are with people who've said racist abuse to them. Or they're Jewish and they're angry with neo-Nazis and all the awful antisemitic conspiracies that go around. They're likely going to have some stern or maybe even vicious words, but that's justifiable anger. I think for sure you'd get that and you'd sympathise with them, if that's the conversation you were having.

Now you might think at first glance, OK, but JK Rowling is just a conservative old lady, does she deserve it? But it's really easy to miss the impact she's had if you aren't trans yourself (or keeping up with the community). Her words have put so much fear and upset and anger into trans people nationwide. Her views are hugely damaging and have really propagated a bigoted attitude - trans people feel more and more unsafe in Britain every day and it's because of a perceived swell of anti-trans rhetoric that it's thought she is now spearheading.

So IMO she deserves a backlash against those opinions she's chosen to put forward: people should be telling her and other transphobes, look, your views are awful, you're a bully, this isn't acceptable. And if that gets a bit sweary I'm not going to blame anyone for that. Do you get where I'm coming from at least?

I think when there are people who find that kind of thing unpleasant to read - I haven't seen the thread but it probably is objectively pretty vicious, even if I think that's justified! - it's because they are nice people in themselves. You are probably a polite person who doesn't get angry easily. That's actually a good thing, so don't worry about it.

Being hateful towards bigots is the correct response.

My grandmother always told me that hate is such a strong word, but it's totally fine to loathe something.

Even if you really mean you hate them, it's that simple. To be fair, that's pretty wise when it comes to staying out of trouble, and she's Catholic

GRcade, particularly when it moved from GamesRadar, gradually developed further away from strict moderation and towards the very light touch, almost self-regulated community we enjoy today. When even was the last time we had a case of mulled wine?! They used to be quite frequent but we're probably talking 5+ years ago now, if not longer.

I struggle to understand how anyone could appreciate the absurd, heavy-handed approach they seem to take over on ResetEra. My view is almost certainly warped as I don't read there myself, I just see the 'highlights' from this thread, but it seems hard to imagine people can really enjoy the experience of posting on the board.
