I'll tell you now our present sales/ads turnover is about £60 per year (I checked adsense last night) because I haven't done a donations drive properly in ages, have never once encroached ads beyond that, and I don't classify donations as sales because there's no benefit, which is literally the case and that was the explicit agreement around concensus when Steve stopped paying for the site (which was like year 2 or something). I don't think people contributing to a site in a material way should pay for it via being commoditised as ad targets, because they are the website and fiscal support should be elective as they already contribute by creating content. That's because I'm capable of seeing value as something other than a dollar amount.

Of course that doesn't work long term (the costings at the moment I do need to sort out) but that's virtually infinitesimally small compared to what 500-700,000 a year.

As an asset GRcade is probably worth something (especially when we had several fold the traffic) but I am just not going to a luxury brand broker and costing that up. This community is not for sale.

The please fund our server box at the bottom of the site really making me laugh, like a heckler at a comedy show.

There is literally no way to classify donations as sales though because to sell something you bave to receive something you can itemise which for GRcade you cannot.

It would be completely different if we had something even as simple as a "supporter" tag.

I report the ad income annually and the expenses which is a net loss.

It still only matches the site's outgoings so it's totally non profit.

This might be a good opportunity for me to clarify something.

Most former launch admins (Me, Zhuge, Nibel, Shinobi, Nicole) did not have any shares or ownership in Resetera. We weren't paid a cent. We definitely worked for free. That's one (of many) reasons we all left early.

Only the system administrators (Era's tech team) had shares/ownership in the company. By late 2018, the tech team sold their shares to Cerium and he became the sole owner.

Some of the current lot are coming across as very combative with the community, and very cliquey.

The tech team probably had shares and issued dividends as payment for their work. Unfortunately it's a common occurrence that rather than getting paid you work "pari passu" in terms of shares and the future dividends of those shares. But I've never been offered it or agreed to it, I'd want a salary for that kind of revenue AND shares if there's a lot of overtime involved.

Cerium just bought them out and then replaced them with some labour somewhere else while the cash pile grew.

This is one thing I don't like in society where projects like this just impose the same valuations on technical skills and science or whatever and the social side is completely ignored. The soft skills needed to actually keep a community alive are massively understated.

The guy's complaining about a situation he created for himself by being greedy. He sorted out appointing himself forum overlord amongst a room full of other people, and then mounted with the dreaded onus of responsibility he used that as a justification to duck out and make bank, and left everyone else in the room.

I swear to god if Cal ends up getting a paycheque out of all this…
