That coupled with the regular erasure of ethnic history in Britain (especially pre 20th century Britain) leads a lot of people to assume a period drama must have an all white cast, and any deviation from this is "social engineering".
"Hmm I'm on the tube with a potentially violent racist that could spark a brawl, but damn it! I will film it properly! I must insist the argument is on hold until I sort out the correct lighting, aspect ratio and sound quality!"
