Any impressions on this from any GRcaders so far?

I was not a fan of the first RAGE but have been interested in this as it has been a while since I played something that just let me focus on shooting stuff up!

I've spent five hours with it and it's exactly what I need to tide me over until Doom Eternal. The weapons and hit responses from enemies are perfect with the shotgun in particular being a highlight. The abilities add an extra layer of strategy and mobility that make for excellently satisfying combat encounters. The loop of intensive combat, explore area for upgrade materials, get a little bit more powerful, and do it again has extremely enjoyable for me so far. I imagine a lot of people will get bored quickly especially since outside of the combat the game really isn't doing anything noteworthy but if you're particularly fond of Doom style combat it's definitely worth considering.

Excellent, sounds just the sort of thing I'm after. Very tempted to jump on board the Rage Train!

Eurogamer echoing the consensus; brilliant shooting let down by a boring world.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019 ... open-world

Rage 2 review - sparkling combat is let down by a hollow open world
Middle-of-the-road rage.

I'll admit that the heady union of id - the godfather of modern shooters - with the open world expertise of Avalanche did more than pique my interest when the sequel was announced (enough that I wondered why these kind of collaborations aren't more commonplace). And while there is, without question, plenty of balls-to-the-wall action and beautifully distressed setpieces to explore, it's hard to shake the feeling that Rage 2 is anything but a linear adventure shoe-horned into an open-world experience. For every occasion the game funnels you towards a mutant-infested sewer or a grotty, grime-encrusted interior, you know you're in for some tight, tense, and glorious gunplay. Beyond the walls of these scripted events, however, and you really do feel as though you're in a barren wasteland. And although exploration is rewarded by way of bulging containers of Feltrite and cold, hard cash - not to mention Ark chests that provide the all-important components needed to boost your weapons and powers along the way - before long, it starts to feel frustratingly repetitive.

Jim Sterling comes to a very similar conclusion also

I would never have believed the day would arrive where you share Jim Sterling's views as a means of supporting your own, Taf! .

I'm ribbing you, man. I agree that the general viewpoint is that the gameworld is a bit barren; good-looking, but barren.

I've still got some excitement about traveling across such a good-looking wasteland, though.

It may be getting some middling or slightly disappointing reviews but I'm still really interested in getting this - I just need something that lets me blast away for a change of pace!

I've managed to put about 5 hours in across two evenings and I cannot wait to get playing again tonight.
I definitely concede the driving is a means to an end (it might get more exciting when I can beef the car up and take on convoys) but you are never really more than a minute away from another location where a gunfight is going to kick off. And the gunfights are absolutely brilliant, hectic, explosive and quite often amusing. Upgrades come thick and fast and in my time so far I've already found 3 or 4 new toys to play with.
If you liked Doom 2016 I can't see how you wouldn't think this was great too. It even does the same 'encourages you to get up-close and personal' thing, as the best currency is dropped from kills but only lasts a few seconds before disappearing.

tbh I'm still tempted. DOOM 16's shooting was good enough that any comparison to it is enough to sell me a game.

I assumed it was to do with this onwards

t:rumour-final-fantasy-vii-remake-ps4?p=4462052#p4462052

But now its in other threads not so sure

Rage 2 - not enough to justify initial purchase, will keep an eye in sales.

Just spotted this is only £26.99 on PC at CDKeys, very tempting at that price...
