PostRally games: Where the strawberry float are they?

The most exciting motorsport is yet to be represented this generation. Where the strawberry float (yes, I'm really angry about this) are the new RalliSports, Colin McRae's or WRC games?

We know that Microsoft have a racing team, Turn 10, but they are working on Forza 3 and/or a new Project Gotham so who else can they turn too?, Codemasters have released DiRT but it's not the pure rally experience people are craving for and evolution studios have numerous titles in production, one of which has now gone gold, so what else are they up to?

I want a new RalliSport Challenge 2, I want a new Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and I want a new WRC II - Extreme. In fact any one of them in this generation would be strawberry floating cool.

SO, WHERE THE strawberry float ARE THEY????

Good point, maybe because Sega Rally bombed companies are a bit more hesitant to put rally games out there? Plus games like Motorstorm and Pure are filling the mud/messy racing niche without being to "hardcore" about tuning/repairs/shaving off milliseconds.

You want a real rally experience so you suggest Rallisport Challenge?

Based on their original format there's simply not enough money to be made from them. That's not to say we'll never see a pure-bred WRC racer again. It'll just have to be at a time where the market demand is large enough to justify rocketing development costs.

I'd be really surprised if there are more Colin McRae games.

Yeah, I didn't mean it in the literal sense, I mean a rally game with the credentials of Colin McRae Rally 2.0. Sorry for the confusion there fella's.

Possibly but I'm looking for a more realistic rally game which would probably sell better than a half-baked arcade one.

Yeah, I hope this isn't the new focus of off-road racing though. There is still room for a proper rally game and I know (from interviews) that evolution are working on other titles around MotorStorm. Fingers crossed!

Isn't FUEL the next rally type game from Codies?

That's not the all-out rally experience we're looking for.

I've been barking out for a new WRC for years.

Nah, that's more of an arcade racer with open environments and multiple vehicle types.

I'd be seriously surprised if Evolution made another one. Perhaps one day EA may see some value in the licence and take the reigns.

The Evolution WRC games were superb (one of the few games to get the cockpit view right) and it breaks my heart to see them pumping their time into the interminably boring Motorstorm games, where graphical sheen is put far ahead of the gameplay.

As for the license itself, I doubt it's an attractive acquisition anymore, even for Codemasters. The sport is dying.

I enjoyed Sega Rally, even if it was hard at times.

I would love to see a RalliSport Challenge 3 but I can't see it happening.

As for a proper WRC game, who actually has the licence for it?

The Colin McRae thing still makes me sad.. 2.0 is still probably the best racing game experience as far as i'm concerned. DiRT was great too though, although very different.

It's a shame Evolution don't make WRC games any more. I, too, think they were pretty good and still hold up well today. My favourite CMR was 4.0. Seemed to me Codies had perfected the game before ballsing it all up with DiRT (a truly dire 'lets please the Americans' attempt to get Yanks to buy into the whole rally thing).

Evolution Studios have it as a PS3 exclusive though I doubt they'll ever use it :fp:

I would love a proper licensed rally game with perfect courses and graphics.

I suspect gran turismo 5 will provide the best rally experience, if they decide to include it/ if they decide to release the strawberry floating game!

SEGA Rally was not great imo. It was just an insane difficulty level, the handling was like a very old style racing game with the car fixed to the centre of the screen (maybe this was the point to make it faithful to the arcade game, which was awesome btw), and to me, the races got very dull after the first lap.

DIRT was, I think, a very good game with good variety, although, no, it wasn't an authentic rally game. I agree with most of the other comments, that a pure point-to-point rally game would not have enough appeal to sell enough copies.
