Great to see they didn't have to crunch for this.

With Miles out last year, this out this week and Spiderman 2 and possibly a Sunset Overdrive remaster and/or sequel in development I'm not sure how they are doing it.

Insomniac on their way to overtaking Naughty Dog as Sony's premier studio.

That Metro review is pretty damning, and I do very much repect their review pieces.

I have not even got a PS5 yet (lol), so will see what the wider critical feedback is from those of us who have spent out our hard earned circa £70. Their issues with none of the different weapons really being essential other than to alleviate boredom, and an upgraded starter weapon being just as effective did ring true for my playthrough of the 2016 game.

That’s interesting because when Giant Bomb were talking about it yesterday they were saying literally the exact opposite (you can fully upgrade the early weapons pretty quickly but later on they’re just trash because they’re so ineffective against later enemies). They even called out the previous games in the series as having the problem you described, but now they’ve finally given you a reason to use the whole arsenal.

Ah, thats great to hear, thanks for provding that alternative viewpoint. I'm much more interested again now because of this news. I did not know GB had done a quick look, will try and get round to having a look.

It's not so much a Quick Look as the two Jeffs talking about it for an hour over some footage as soon as the embargo was up.

I think there’s only about 3 or so weapons usually in each game which can become a little obsolete as you progress - the blaster and bomb glove they usually put in, the shotgun variant, tend to become a little bit gooseberry fool.
I hope there’s one of those ricocheting razor disc guns - pepepew!

I use all the guns, all the time in these games. They're all just so unique and fun to use that I can't imagine ever leaving one to the side.

As far as I can tell, Metro's main complaint is "It's Ratchet and Clank"... that's not enough to put me off a purchase. They'd have had to say "here's why the old games are much better than this one".

Pre-downloading now. Should hopefully get a few hours by myself in the morning to have a good session

That might be all you'll get. Apparently there's a vid on youtube of a full casual playthrough of the game. The video is only 5 hours and 20 mins, and apparently about 1 hour 30 of that is cutscenes. Not a 100% run, so I assume there're extras to collect, but that still seems rather dire; I can't imagine there would be that much more to it. Was really looking forward to this as well.

Length doesn't matter to me. Something short but fun enough to be replayable is infinitely more enticing to me than something 20-30 hours long that I'm done with after one go. The recent Resident Evil games, for example, were really very short but I've played them for more hours than most other games this year because they're replayable.

I anticipate this game to be no different. For a start, a NG+ is a must with Ratchet games as it's a chance to go to town with your fully upgraded weaponry against more difficult odds.

I'd also take that video with a pinch of salt as I doubt the person playing took any time to explore for secrets and the like.
