Why does it need a remaster? Serious question.

Just no. No.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Rockstar do a GTA5 with it next gen mind.

And with GTA6 that’ll be their total release schedule for next gen.

Asura's Wrath - 7/10

Very little actually gameplay in this, but I enjoyed it anyway. The cutscenes were awesome.

Burnout Paradise - 7/10

+ Great sense of speed.
+ Bikes are excellent, as are the different events for them, and the lack of DJ Atomica when using them.
+ Most races and event types are enjoyable, at least initially.
+ Soundtrack is good, as long as you turn off all the EA Trax shite.

- DJ Atomica.
- Having to drive to every damn event. Sometimes you finish a race in the middle of nowhere, and have to drive for miles just to start another event. Very frustrating.
- Driving to and from the same handful of landmarks over and over in the events gets very tedious, long before you've completed the game.
- Inconsistencies with crashing, collision detection, and how cars handle under certain circumstances.

I enjoyed this more and more as it went on, but it started to get very repetitive long before I'd completed it. I got the highest licence (I think) but there were still 100+ events left if I wanted to unlock all the cars. Can't face driving to and from the same couple of places all over again, so strawberry float that. The bikes were a great addition though, and probably more enjoyable than the main game.

I’ve just royally bollocksed up the Mass Effect 3 ending. Out of the 3 horrendous choices (well, one isn’t totally gooseberry fool) it gives you I was like ‘I don’t want to choose!’

Cue an upward pan to a few Reapers out the window, fade to black, boom...nothing. No extended ending, strawberry float all

Shocking.

At least around these parts, I feel like R* - 2K moreso as they're the ones pulling the strings - aren't too greatly regarded compared to around the time GTA V first released.

Both GTA V and RDR2 (neither of which really appeal to me, personally) still prove that they are unrivalled when it comes to the sheer size and scope of their projects, sure, but I feel their reputation, more than anything, hinges on GTA 6 more now than it would've done 7 years ago.

God of War (PS4 Pro) [8]

I can definitely understand why this game has won so many awards and received so much praise: you can legitimately say that, in almost every area, the game is very strong and, for its pure consistency alone, it's well worth playing. Sure, you can find better examples of combat systems, gate / item locked gameplay, pacing, etc., but rarely at such consistently-high levels.

I loved the locations, voice acting, story (for a God of War newcomer) was pretty good, too. The music was ace, as well. In terms of overall production values, it's peerless.

On a negative note, I thought the opening didn't do a good enough job of showing the game's strengths and I restarted the game several times - like I said, I wasn't invested in this universe and became quite impatient with the slow start. And, like many AAA games, it overstays its welcome somewhat in the interetst of providing value (seems there were quite a few false-endings and hunts for the next MacGuffin in an area that had already been explored).

Still, I'll be interested in continuing the story when a sequel eventually arrives and I could understand if people argued that this is the 'game of the generation'.

Star Ocean: First Departure R (Switch)

I liked this. Breezy, old-school JRPG. Hit the spot.

Sunset Overdrive (X1)

Fun, funny, action packed game. If you like the whole Deadpool vibe (perhaps slightly less meta) then this should appeal to you.

Not an overly challenging game, and i pretty much mainlined the main story, avoiding just about all the side quests.

I was always impressed by how easy it was to make everything you do look stylish, it made you feel like you had an unnatural ability to judge jumps / landings etc, when clearly there must have been a generous amount of "auto aim" in use.

Absolutely awesome soundtrack and nice colourful graphics. Well worth about 10 hours of your time. Only bits i did not like were the sections where you set traps, the placings always felt arbitrary, and it seemed like a bit of a stress as to whether you would be able to defend the relevant vats.

I love Sunset Overdrive. An underrated gem in my eyes. One of my favourites of this gen. Sad we won’t see a sequel.

Ultimate Doom - 7/10

The game falls apart towards the end. E3 has some really weak level designs (Mt Erebus, the one after it). I love Episode 1 and most of 2.

Shenmue 2

Despite being a huge Shenmue fan I've never gotten past Hong Kong in this, I'd still say it's a bit overwhelming coming from the first game which is a smaller location that you get to know everything about. One you get through that it really gets going and is probably the best game section of the two. I can't get over the scale in a pre PS2 game like this. There is something about the look and feel of these games that you just can't find anywhere else, I love it. Unfortunately I just missed Shenmue 3 in the sale, it would have been nice to go straight into a game and carry on the story some people have waited 20 years to play.

Agreed. One of my favourite Xbox One games.

Who owns the IP? If it's Insomniac could they do another one for PlayStation (assuming they aren't too busy with Spiderman/Ratchet games)? Otherwise I wouldn't imagine Microsoft will give the IP to someone else.

I think it might be a Microsoft IP, sadly. Recently went back to SO to mop up some achievements and it is a magnificent game. You can see where the blueprint for Spider-Man's mechanics came from in it, which is really cool.

Forza Horizon 4 - PC

I've played this for a long time and enjoyed it a lot, but for a while that has been with ever decreasing frequency. Each time I go on to noodle about for a while, tweak some cars, do some time trial events etc but quickly begin to regret it and think I could be doing something else instead. Its a prime example of the "live service" meta-genre of games which pull you back with lots of bells and whistles to make you do things to unlock things, fill up bars etc and while its been fun, I keep resorting to it when I could be either playing something else with a story or doing something else completely. This is the last holdout live service game i've been keeping around as cognitive junk food, and as much as I like it, it's time to let it go.

Crackdown 3 (1X)

Predictably, given the negative press, I really enjoyed this. Loved the music and thought some of the areas were really lovely in their design (racetrack, mariner). Not an ambitious game, but a fun one for the whole 14 hours or so it took me.

7 (almost an 8). Give it a go if you have Gamepass and fancy something mindless.
