I finished Paper Mario last night. It was strawberry floating great. It isn't as good as The Thousand Year Door, but it isn't far off.

Nintendo, make a paper Mario game like this and TTYD next, please!

The N64 one? If so, it's awesome, genuinely one of the best games on the system. Holds up really well.

Paper mario colour splash (Wii U (the Wii add on)) 7/10

Looked great, some nice humour but the battle system gave more frustrating moments than fun ones later in the game.

I played and finished a couple of games from the Disney Afternoon Collection yesterday, Talespin and Darkwing Duck. Talespin is a bit gooseberry fool but Darkwing Duck is a great Mega Man style platformer.

Talespin 3/10
Darkwing Duck 7/10

Yeah, the N64 game. It was glorious. It's a shame that after the stop up with TTYD that they completely changed it with SPM and then, well, balls Sticker Star. One of the best things about Paper Mario are the unique characters and from the little I've played of Sticker Star and the lot I've heard about it and Color Splash, they aren't there.

I found Tailspin really weird. I love Darkwing Duck, though. Some even say it's the best Mega Man game.

Fire Emblem Three Houses - 9/10

Haven't played many games this year, this is my favourite one so far. Finished the Black Eagles route. Gonna give it a break for a bit, and then play Dmitri's route.

I too found Talespin a bit odd, sometimes the plane would just refuse to move leading to you taking unavoidable damage.

Yakuza 0 - 8/10

A flawed but great game, full of character and acting as a great hanging point for the whole franchise. Lots of fun to be had in the combat, which teeters on the verge of becoming monotonous in places. Minigames and side missions are the highlight. Package is mostly down by inconsistent pacing, invisible walls, weird movement and date graphics.

Thought I'd give my thoughts on >Observer given nobody I have on Xbox live friends list on Grcade seems to have given it a go despite it being on GamePass.

7.1 sounds is a must if you are into your horror games but extremely enjoyable game, very atmospheric, obviously heavily influenced by Blade Runner (among other things) Rutget Hauer is brilliant, but on the whole probably not for the feint hearted. It employs every method it can think of in scaring the gooseberry fool out of you from Psychological horror in viewing the nightmares of others to being stalked in certain sections Alien Isolation style. The randomness of what is going on is quite intimidating as well as you're not always sure what's going on or what the game is going to throw at you next as it doesn't need to abide by the rules of the real world. .

Definitely recommended, if you can stomach it, but there seems to be a lot of people who really enjoyed and an equal amount that thought it was a bit crap, but for me 8/10

Fable III – 6/10

+ Looks nice in places
+ Has some good pieces of music
+ It has a sense of humour
+ Can be enjoyable at times

- Frame rate is appalling in places
- Combat gets very tedious
- So. Many. Balverines.
- A lot of the quests aren’t very enjoyable
- Bizarre menu system
- Why do I have to keep holding everyone’s hand?
- Game takes you past to the final act without warning and without a chance to properly prepare

This felt like a game too far in the series. Fable II was great, but this left me feeling like they didn’t have enough good or new ideas to warrant a third game.
Throw in some really odd design choices, and the limited and tedious combat, and it just felt like an unnecessary step backwards and an unnecessary game full stop. I like Fable, and would like to see it return some day, but it needs an overhaul (while retaining the bits that make it unique).

Guacemelee! 2 - 9/10

Up there with the very very best Metroidvanias. Keeps an excellent pace and challenge from start to finish, with mostly meaningful collectables and a super satisfying moveset. Story line is cute enough and sort of funny in places.

Layers of Fear on PS4. Despite being pretty scared almost all the way through this I rather enjoyed it. The atmosphere is spot on with the sound and visuals always putting you on edge.

I only managed the worst ending and I understand there are two more so I’ll try to get those soon too.

The Gardens Between - 9

Lovely little game this. The central concept is a fairly simple one, a puzzle game built around moving time, but they have a lot of different takes on it that make each level fairly unique and satisfying to complete. The presentation is great, the aesthetic and music combine well with the theme to create a really atmospheric experience. It’s a short game but also one that doesn’t outstay its welcome. Would recommend.

Assassins Creed: Odyssey

Extremely polished and probably the best one in the series - I especially liked the reduction in the out of Animus bits, as quite frankly I've never cared for those sections. Interesting characters and story line, with some well designed quests - particularly some of the side quests. There is an argument that it is perhaps a bit too long and the world a bit too big. The world is filled with very samey locations and side missions (deliver this there, kill this guy, etc), which meant the game did begin to outstay its welcome for me as I focused on the story to wrap things up. Still, all in all a very good game and a whole lot of game for your money.

Tales of Symphonia (Gamecube) - 7/10

+ Nicely designed world
+ Good soundtrack
+ Enjoyable combat

- Poor audio quality (voices)
- Goes on for too long
- Confusing/nonsensical plot
- Dungeons/intermediary areas are annoying and frustrating

After months and months of on-and-off play, I finally completed this. Took me 43 hours in total. It's a good game, but I'd definitely lost interest in the plot by about halfway through, and the annoying design of some areas and dungeons got really old, really fast. It's the first Tales game I've played, and I don't know where it 'ranks' in the series or whatever, but was a decent JRPG romp.

Yoshi's Island - 8/10

Super Mario World 8/10

Thank strawberry float for the rewind button on the last one. The physics in that game are very weird and floaty.
