I've never been through a divorce but both my wife and I also felt this way throughout the game. Very problematic.

I don't know anything about the writer but it felt like it was written by someone who had never been in a relationship. It definitely felt quite immature in its viewpoints.

Also the kid was brain dead. Must've gotten it from her parents, clearly.

I'm still only in the second chapter but I think the issue with the plot is one that comes from video games aping the storytelling of film. After two hours we're still very early on but if this were a movie the protagonists would have probably turned a corner already and stopped the constant bickering.

Still pretty good though.

I got invested in the stories of Brothers and A Way Out in a way I just didn't with It Takes Two. The gameplay innovation and variety is still excellent and probably the most polished, it's just not tied together as a game like those previous games. I didn't find the plot offensive or problematic though, just not really engaging and more of an excuse for disconnected scenarios.

No More Heroes

Really don't know what score to give this but I really enjoyed it. I'd forgotten quite a lot of the game so some of the twists were unexpected and it was great fun.

Might have to finally pick up NMH2 when it's next on sale.

Neo: The World Ends With You

Great to finally see a sequel and for the most part I enjoyed it. The battle system was great and it looked lovely. I did think it overstayed it's welcome a little though, possibly not helped by the same, limited environments.

7/10

Shadow Man Remastered

A decent game that could've been great if it had just had a Metroidvania style map and it's a shame they didn't incorporate one into the remaster. I'd happily go back and collect everything if I could clearly see where all the previously inaccessible areas were located.

I have kept a save right at the end in case I want to go back for the 100% but I can't see it happening. I still don't think I could have completed this without Google. Due to poor design, there were multiple occasions where I completely missed ledges or destructible scenery that were required to make progress.

A map would've alleviated all of my issues and would've probably saved me several hours of backtracking as well!

So I liked it but I didn't adore it. I'm really pleased to have finally beaten it after all these years though.

Kena: bridge of spirits.

Incredible game. The art style, graphics, sound and music are some of the best I’ve seen and heard, music especially. Lovely

The platforming and adventure is solid. The combat is good and the bosses are surprisingly challenging.

I enjoyed the story, and it’s well told. Characters are likeable and engaging.

Real surprise for me, but a really good game. Up there with Horizon for me. Recognising Horizon is more open world but Kena has a better combat system, platforming and story telling/characters.

9/10. Loses a point for a a lack of hints/trainer to prepare you for some fights that require specific actions.

Better combat than Horizon? Wow. I thought HZD had some of the best combat encounters I have ever had in a non-combat exclusive game.

I felt so.

Kena felt closer to the Batman Arkham games than I was expecting, albeit without the combos and gadgets.

Kena has the hack and slash and bow mechanics but also a shield and parry abilities and I remember horizon being just dodge.

Kena's enemies have nothing on the robosaurs of HZD though. The enemies make HZD's combat much more fun and engaging for me.

The bigger stuff yes. Fair. But the basic enemies were just as much fodder in Horizon as they are in Kena.

Return of the Obra Dinn

Started this morning and spent my entire day off playing it to completion.

Incredible puzzle solving, mystery game. Seriously everyone who enjoys logic puzzles should give this a go as I can't think of another game like it. I guess it's the best parts of the deduction moments you get in Ace Attorney games with none of the frustration and it's so satisfying when the game congratulates you on solving another three mysteries.

Absolutely brilliant. Fantastic soundtrack too.

I loved this game so much. But yeah, there is nothing else quite like it unfortunatley.

The one and only game me wife has sat down and played all the way through with me.

The Outer Wilds? The Witness?

Please note: I have not played Obra Dinn...

Nope. It's far more logic driven than The Outer Wilds.... and also it's actually good and not just an exercise in frustration and confusion :shifty:

The Wintess obviously is logic driven, but it feels far more like you have to have a brain of a certain size to progress, where as Obra Dinn rewards applying some critical thinking, imagination and empathy (which obviously goes completely against the "logic driven" claim I made earlier).

It's very tricky to explain, but it is truly unique.

[2022-01] Steamworld Dig 2 (Switch) ★★★☆☆

Gorgeous little game. The meta layer is interesting and it has a satisfying gameplay loop to start with, very Subnautica in doing “dives” and “coming up for air”. But unfortunately it just kind of chucks that out in favour of making you a completely OP mining god which simply wasn’t as interesting. It has a few little sections where it feels like it’s about to throw some good puzzles or platforming at you, but most of the time it moves on before it gets good and the potential was left unrealised. Unrealised potential is a bit of a running theme, as it just kind of rushes through the final third to a flat ending. Like a TV show that knows it’s cancelled and tries to wrap it up early, it just felt like it had intended to be more and never made it.
