I thought this was great. Some frustrating moments, but it was a lovely little Zelda style game. I would like a sequel.

Just finished it too and I'd give it the same score. Could have done with some better signposting (and a map!) but that might have been my fault for having some big gaps between plays.

Finally beat GG Aleste 2. This was an 8/10 for me as well, really fun game but it was frustrating that I kept game overing on the final boss.

Hollow Knight - 9/10

Third time going through this. A fine game, with only one flaw I can really highlight.

Sayonara Wildhearts - 6/10

It looked strawberry floating amazing in terms of direction and performance. There just isn't enough game in here for me. It never truly outstays its welcome though.

Trek to Yomi

Having heard pretty scathing reviews of this, I have to say it was far better than I had expected. The short (very short) playtime helped, as did the excellent art style, which really did feel unique. It was quite repetitive, but you get drip fed just enough new equipment and combinations to keep you interested.

I thought the checkpointing was pretty well done, with just enough distance between them to make you think about your strategy but without feeling punitive and disheartening. The last boss was quite tricky, but ok when his pattern was mastered.

The Outer Worlds on XBOX Series S. I was really enjoying this until the last couple of main story missions for that Phineas Welles chap. I'd built my character around talking my way out of most situations and picking locks so I could steal anything that wasn't nailed down.

Throughout most of the game my tactical shotgun and charm/lock picking abilities served me well but toward the end there were loads of very tanky enemies that I really struggled with and ended up hiding then making a beeline for the objective marker when the chance arose... oh and the last boss was a tedious bullet sponge.

I'd likely have rated this 08/10 were it not for the last hour or so souring my experience somewhat. As such it gets a solid 07/10 from me, I might HAVE another run at some point to see how other choices pan out and to try the DLC.

My Name is Mayo 2 on PS4. Not really a lot to say about this, it's clicker game. You tap X on a jar of mayo a bunch of times and in about 30 to 40 minutes you have a platinum trophy. Great if you are trophy hunter 05/10

A Memoir Blue on XBOX Series S. Not sure how to rate this as it's an unusual game. I've heard it described as a graphic adventure but it's more of an interactive dream sequence about a girl and her mother who escape an abusive household and the girl goes on to become a successful swimmer. I didn't dislike it but it the same time I didn't particularly like it either and it does at least look very pretty and the music is great. 06/10

Sleeping Dogs (PS4) - 8/10
GTA x Yakuza - as fun as that sounds! For an older title, this still holds up really well. The fighting was the strongest, followed by the driving, then the shooting (which felt a little loose). The city was atmospheric and the dual storyline was good, but leaned heavily toward the yakuza side (can't complain really!). However, there's no way in hell I'd still have been a cop with the amount of destruction caused and people killed! Some of the costumes were great (Wing Chun ), but my favourite part of the whole thing was the penultimate and final missions. Just, WOW! :slol:

Last Stop.

As 'walk for a bit and then press a button while the story unfolds' type games go, this was pretty decent. Kind of a British Life Is Strange, if you will. Unfortunately the last episode is absolutely dire, and really ruined all the strong character work that they'd built up. Shame.

DorfRomantik [PC] - 9/10

Well, I've taken a break from playing it for now, I don't think it's a game you can ever 'finish'.

One of the best, most chilled out, yet addictive puzzle games I've ever played. I ended up with a best score of 106K, which puts me about 600 in the Steam rankings, so not too shabby. I'll dive back in later this year and try and beat it.

It's a map-builder puzzle game with a fairly simple premise but a wide array of strategies. Currently part of a Steam sale, so I recommend picking it up!

TMNT Shredder's Revenge (Switch) - 8/10
Finished the main story and my initial opinion hasn't really changed; it's real good throwback arcade fun, that's had a lot of love and attention poured into it. However, it's not SoR4 levels of awesomeness and tbh I think Scott Pilgrim is better. Haven't went through all the characters in this yet, but both of those titles fighting mechanics feel more refined. Still loads of fun though and the up to 6 player multiplayer makes it unique. The arcade section, trickier challenges and boosting of characters will keep me going for a while yet.

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes - 8/10

I really enjoyed this though it's not the pure warriors game the first one was. It adds a lot but I'm not convinced it's all for the better. It's a more fire emblem game now and that's great for fans but I prefer the original and it's pure hack and slash focus.

I found the characters and art a bit muted compared to the original and certainly compared to Hyrule Warriors. I didn't really get the class system as everyone has a best class so why bother changing.

It's still good hack and slash fun but I really wish it had the colours and speed of samurai warriors 5 or the different character designs of one piece warriors 4.

10 hours in the demo and 33 final playtime all together.

Wish my image sig would work

Completed a few small games on Gamepass:

Dodgeball: Academia - a fun, fairly challenging game in the mold of the old mario sports titles. It did grow a little repetitive towards the end of the campaign though. 6/10

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion - an enjoyable and amusing little Zelda clone. A fairly short one too, which can be blasted in an afternoon. 7/10

Unpacking - a relaxing experience with a surprisingly sweet storyline. The occasional frustrations of not understanding some of the restrictions for items, but this wasn't a common issue. 7/10

I also completed the campaign for the new Lego game, the Skywalker Saga. While there are certainly improvements to the combat and game generally, it isn't significantly different from other Lego games. It was fun and full of content, but doesn't change my feeling that I'm just a bit sick of Lego games, and particularly Star Wars ones which have rather been done to death. 6/10

It's not too often that I can make a post in this thread, but... I've just completed Portal on Switch :toot: .

I finished it back on it's original release and it was great to return. I'd forgotten most of it so it felt fresh and, despite being a pretty short game, those last two stages are pretty tricky.

A brief but hugely enjoyable experience and a title that was great to play on a handheld system. [8].

I'm not sure if I'll go straight onto Portal 2 or if I'll try something else for now.

Flynn : Son of Crimson - 8/10

I loved it. Perfect little weekend game. Kinda reminded me of Land of Illusion on SMS, not a strict metroid game but it has unlocked abilities that allow you go new routes through earlier levels.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion

Not bad, but I think if it was one minute longer it would have overstayed it's welcome. Also prett buggy on Series X - loss of controls if going in and out of the guide menus, went framey at one point and needed a restart, did not save when I finished the main game, so reloading to look at the unlocked content sent me back about 15 minutes. At which point I promptly uninstalled).

The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve (Switch)

Absolute top tier Ace Attorney. Incredibly long, complex and twisting cases that link up better than ever, exceptional characters and humour, and fantastic character art and music (as always).

Probably the longest game in the entire series and probably only second to Trials and Tribulations in terms of how much I enjoyed it and how impactful it was. But it's damn close.

Also it was pretty mature and gritty for an AA game, but never gratuitous or treading the "bad path".

Call of Duty: WW2 - PS4

This was visually spectacular and viscerally enjoyable moment to moment but fundamentally uninteresting. The characters are generic and i had a lot of trouble seeing what the hell was going on most of the time. I applaud that they actually dared to mention/depict the holocaust even only as part of the playable epilogue and i imagine most of the CoD target audience didn't even get to vs. getting stuck into the pavlovian multiplayer, a topic which many ww2 games seem to go out of their way to brush under the carpet however it's a sad endictment that if this came out today then the "bOtH sIdES" crowd would be up in arms, and 2017 seems like such a long time ago in comparison.

Singleplayer videogames, call of duty especially, are a themepark ride and this reminds you of that time and again; you barely notice the extremely elaborate detail around you and there are too many not very good stealth sections or a very clunky flying section that serves literally no purpose and the story such as it is would have been 100% fine without it.

It was only a few £s as thats how the pump-and-dump cod treadmill churns, but even for that much you really aren't missing anything by skipping this now.

Golf Club Wasteland - 5/10

+ Good premise
+ Soundtrack is nice
+ Looks reasonable

- Frustrating controls
- Not much depth to the game

This was okay. Took me a couple of hours to get through the 'story' mode, and I think there's a challenge mode but I don't feel at all compelled to play that. Very much feels like a 'once is enough' kind of game. It's very basic, and a bit more finesse in the controls, and the option to re-visit particular holes and try and improve your score, both would've been nice. Otherwise it's just a bit flat and forgettable.
