Skyward Sword HD

Thoroughly enjoyable 40 hour romp. Dungeons were good (if linear) and it was generally a low stress time. I found combat a bit trickier than many of the older (pre BOTW) games, which made a nice change as the combat was quite engaging. Golden beetle was cool.

Mostly played using stick controls in the end, which were far more accurate than motion ones.

Below BOTW and WindWaker, but maybe joint 3rd with Ocarina on my list for 3D games. Certainly better than the lamentable Majoras Mask and seemed better paced than Twilight Princess.

Poi - 7/10

+ Looks decent, if a bit basic
+ Some nice ideas
+ Levels are fairly well designed
+ A lot more to do than there initially seems

- Controls can be a bit fiddly and weird
- Some of the tasks are a bit mundane (but they're optional unless you want 100%)
- Some annoying enemies, which coupled with the annoying controls, makes things...annoying

I enjoyed this on the whole. Decided to go for 100% seeing as I was close after completing the main story. Took me about 10 hours to see and do everything. Rips a tonne of ideas from other platformers, and Super Mario 64 in particular, and is almost a love letter to platformers of the past. There are some nice touches though, and it all combines for a decent, if somewhat underwhelming, game. It's not going to win any awards for originality or doing anything fantastically well, but it's solid enough.

A.I: The Somnium Files - 8/10

That was some ride, which is what I'd expect from the lunatic(s) behind Zero Time Dilemma and Virtues Last Reward.

Was a little clunky in places and I didn't like the QTE bits (took some real effort to get past them, not to mention having to repeatedly set up/edit voice activated macros as some of the key combos randomly change).

Overall enjoyable though and I will definitely try the sequel at some point.

I also wish I had a slightly crazy virtual assistant genius AI like Aiba

Glad you enjoyed it and managed to play through it ok in the end. I bought the sequel the other day and hope to get started on it soon.

Portal 2 - 8/10

after figureing out how to get it to work on my switch again without it crashing i was finally able to beat it. Not played through it in years so i had forgot pretty much every puzzle. Enjoyed it as always.

Is this related to the issue I have read elsewhere about the game crashing out all the time? If so, what was the fix if you don't mind me asking?

Instead of selecting continue on the main menu or loading the auto save, I just kept loading up my manual saves. As long as I loaded the manual saves the game loaded and worked fine

Cyberpunk 2077 - 8/10. Put about 95 hours into it and still haven’t done all of the missions. It looks and runs the bomb, the soundtrack is great, well written…dunno what the problem was :shifty:

I think I'm going to see if it gets discounted in the autumn/winter sales as nearly £50 for a game I'll likely only complete once is bit steep.

Road 96

Bit disappointed with this one. I thought that the story was going to shape around the choices you make far more than they actually ended up doing. Also "choices" is a bit of a generous term, as you are really picking between 3 very explicit choices each time.

Performance was fine (Series X) and vocal work was largely decent (with some good music), but there just wasn't much to keep me engaged - not interactive enough nor nuanced enough in its story telling.

Maybe you need to be young and angry to not feel like it is kind toothless and pandering in it's "rise up" message.

I think it was about 8 hours in total. Very little need to go back for NG+ unless you really want to see every single scene (I had seen about 90% of them all I think).

I don't think I could do more than 45 mins to an hour each day though. Not when you get in to the rhythm of it.

But it's not bad! Think you would enjoy if you like Firewatch and Oxenfree (but the tone is not as interesting here, it's just "tyrants are bad").

Yeah I’ve got it downloaded ready to go - I stuck over 100 hours into Cyberpunk 2077 so could do with a bit of a palette cleanser before getting stuck into my next mission, a certain Disco Elysium that you think is ok.

It certainly has its moments (makes massive attempt to play it cool). Let me know what you think. Or not. No biggie.

Have you played Citizen Sleeper? I can't remember if we discussed that one previously. It's like a simplified Disco Elysium but much shorter (though a free expansion should be out today I believe).

Whether playing a game as similar as DE immediately before playing DE is another thing mind.

The Last Of Us Part II - 9/10
Violence begets violence; a revenge fuelled, gruelling and unnecessarily long-winded journey with some story and pacing problems. However, it's expertly tense and creepy (it certainly gave me the willies!) and the gameplay and visuals are top tier. While I was worried I'd hate the Abby sections, much like all the prior controversy, it was much ado about nothing. Ellie's half was certainly better, but, Abby's mirrored half showed it wasn't just a simple tale of good vs evil; both flawed and shaped by circumstance. Still prefer Part 1 (plus, it had Factions), but, it was one hell of an experience.

Eliza

Well told 5 hours Visual Novel, but one without any anime etc. Very limited in player interaction, but also felt like a "game" was the right format for the story and message.

The Last Of Us Part 2 - 7.5/10

It was good some good sections visually its an amazing look game some of the best wet weather and storm effects i have in a game the fire section near the end is good. But some of the story is bloated and to long some bits were boring to play and not really necessary like the bit with the baby at Ellie's and her gf's farm zzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring filler. It has some good tense moments and action sections but is a game i am not in rush to re-play in a hurry.

Agreed on the bloat, would have been happy enough if it had ended at the theatre. Also, yeah, I uninstalled it, can't see me going back now I've finished it.
