Huntdown - 9.5/10

Surely best of its genre. Hard to imagine there's much to improve in this game. Great art, great soundtrack, wonderful weapon variety, superbly choreographed boss battles and a really satisfying level of difficulty even on Normal. Highly recommended.

Bug Fables - having had an interest in this for sometime and waited to buy cheaply on Switch, I ended up playing on Gamepass instead. For the most part I really enjoyed it. I liked the presentation while the characters and world had more to them than I'd expected. It's a sizeable package with lots to do and I liked the battle system. It had some issues with annoying puzzles, fiddly platforming and difficulty spikes, but you can forgive these. I've heard it described as a homage to Paper Mario and at least for me, I thought it was better than The Origami King. 8/10

Mass Effect 1 (LE).

Enjoyed this a lot. Played through as an Adept class and found the combat to be fun if easy (I played through on veteran difficult).

Great story and characters and love the Citadel setting. The actual missions were a tad boring though as they were all basically the same. Mako sections were fun in this version.

8.

The Last Stop. Nice story but lacking the feel of any agency whatsoever. It really wasn’t a game by any traditional measure. Not bad if you find playing a game keeps you more invested in a story than the completely passive experience of Netflix etc.

Stephen's Sausage Roll (infuriatingly difficult PC only puzzle game)

Few games start off so thoroughly off-putting, but finish so strong.
And it's not just that it finishes strong. It's all great from beginning to end, but it does its best at every turn to push you away. It's visually very... meh. Same goes for the music and sound effects. The controls are a struggle at the end of the game, and they only get more so the less time you've spent with the game. The puzzles are often so hard they seem impossible even after spending half an hour on them.
There are puzzles I had to take three or four stabs at (over three or four days) before I figured out how to solve them.

It has probably the best joke I've ever experienced in any game.

10/10

Monster Hunter Stories 2 - 9/10
As mentioned already in the MHS2 thread, this really surprised me; finished the main story with my son and both of us really enjoyed our time in its world. It has so much charm and the mechanics are lots of fun. There's still a lot of post game content to do too, including multiplayer which haven't really looked much at yet.

Travis Strikes Again

I'm genuinely torn on this one. The story is nonsensical, and the game play incredibly simple, but I really did enjoy my time with it. Finding different synergies for the chips was fun, and I quite liked the (very simplistic) art style. I also loved some of the indie game T Shirts that Travis can wear, though its a shame you can barely ever make out the detail on them.

I have not played the DLC yet, but i'm sure I will. Maybe something to revisit after another game or two. It certianly doesnt feel like something you can play for more than 45 minutes at a time.

Enjoyed the VN scenes, though again, I had next to no idea what the hell was going on most of the time.

Probably the best outro music ever, it's an absolute masterpiece.

It must be one *hell* of a joke to turn all that into 10/10, OSC! .

It's a 10/10 even without the joke.

Must have taken a while to read the full joke though.

We’re on about Ad7’s post history, aye?

Technically you can but you'll get the bad ending. Easy mode is eating everyone.

I just drove a train in Train Sim World 2 in the first training mission so that's pretty much the game completed.

Not bad for a 4 minute long game, 8/10  .

Evil within 2 (PC gamepass) - 9

I really enjoyed this. I really liked the 1st game and can’t remember it to compare too much. 2 is an awesome game. Story is bat gooseberry fool, but expected i guess?

There is a nice mix of stealth and action. Weapons are great. I like that ammo is scare, you have to think tactically and rotate weapons. Highly recommend this, if you get through the opening few chapters which are slow.

I just bought EW2 last month but I haven't decided whether I'll replay the first one before starting it.

There are references to it, but I would crack on with 2. Looks good on 3070 but it wasn’t 100% GPU utilisation, might be my graphics settings.

Super Mario Galaxy (3D All-Stars)

Replaying Galaxy all these years later has been nothing short of enjoyable - even using the spring power proved fun in small doses, unlike how I remembered it. But for all the creative level ideas - both visually and mechanically - I felt that my journey to the centre of the universe was short lived and that there should've at least been just one more handful of galaxies to discover overall. In conclusion I'm still of the opinion that Galaxy 2 is the superior game in all but the scope of its premise.

As for all 3 games in the collection, here's how I rate them: Galaxy > Sunshine > 64. Each game just goes from strength to strength and I appreciate each and every one of them.

Control - 8/10

I enjoyed this a lot. The Ashtray Maze sequence towards the finale is one of the best I've ever played in a videogame. Loses marks because the narrative is utter nonsense bollocks that never really came close to emotionally engaging me. Ran perfect on PS5 - only encountered one or two glitches which were easily fixed.

If I were doing a sequel I'd lean more heavily into the aspects it borrowed from Metroid.

Just finished Watch Dogs 2 and I'd give it a solid 7/10

Some of the gadgets make missions pretty fun, and doing a mission in a 'stealth' style was satisfying, but the actual missions themselves were quite repetitive and it felt like it was up to you to tackle them in different ways to keep things from getting stale. The car handling seemed really bad too. It just wasn't much fun to drive around, compared to something like GTA V, which I know is a pretty high bar, but it didn't even feel close.

Best bit of the game that. Could have done with a few more of those. Brilliant.

That bit glitched when I first played it and I had to restart the whole section. Kind of killed the mood.

I played through 2 as a stealth game - no guns, only gadgets/hacking and really enjoyed it, which was odd as I normally hate stealth games because I'm terrible at them.
