Amazing game. Some poor dialogue was probably the only weak point. One of this boss battles was bloody tough but all the rest were excellent and pretty creative.

Felt like the perfect blend of Resi 4 and The Last of Us.

High praise indeed. I'm currently playing TLoU Remastered, but plan to begin The Evil Within 2 nearer Halloween.

It was my early Halloween game. I got through it a bit quicker than I anticipated due to how much I enjoyed it.

Visage next I guess….

Marvel Avengers: War for Wakanda - 4/10
Ugh. It's the same cookie cutter levels/enemies and Black Panther wasn't that much fun to use either. Also, the last boss was irritating as all hell. That's me done, I doubt I'll be bothered with any future updates/dlc.

I can’t beat that boss :fp: Black Panther’s skills are a proper letdown, and the voice acting is whack. Raging.

Yeah, it took me a good few attempts even after I'd leveled up a bit. Basically, had to go through the entire level twice (thankfully it keeps upgrades when you die) to get my gear up to the 60 mark. Even then it was tough. I concentrated mostly on Klaue, but you need to make sureCrossbones gets downed to hit the turrets, so you don't run out of time.

The amount of health the bosses have in this is a bit ridiculous. I got Klaue’s health down to a sliver, a tiny bit left, and I got got. Cba any more.

Yup, I did the same, got him down to the last sliver about 5/6 times and kept getting killed. I was ready to ditch it just before I got him. Tbh, you ain't missing much; the ending was very disappointing too!

Tempted to delete the lot off the hard drive. I’ve been giving it the benefit of the doubt for a year, and it’s been fairly good, but what they’ve done with the levelling - slowing it down to then conveniently offer XP boosters for cash - is slimy.

As soon as I beat the boss I immediately uninstalled it. I know the Spidey dlc will be coming in the future, but it's just gonna be more of the same.

Batman: Arkham Knight - I finished this last night after restarting it earlier this year but settling down to play it as one of my main games last month. Going into it, I was worried that it would not hold up against City given the negative impressions of the Batmobile but I found it to be a great addition to the series and not overused. I spent most of my time gliding around the city out of choice so perhaps that helped keep the Batmobile seem fresh but I still opted to use the Batmobile, especially after unlocking it in Founders' Island, to move around more quickly.

I completed Arkham City back in 2013 and Origins some time after it launched so I'm not sure what exactly is new for Knight in terms of combat/gadgets but it gives a lot of variety when fighting thugs and I never felt tired of the combat system. It's a huge game but I managed to complete about 75% of the Most Wanted missions. I only left the watchtower, explosive mines, checkpoints and Riddler trophies - I didn't complete Penguin's mission either as the game seemed to have a bug which stopped me grappling into the fourth weapons cache location.

After finishing the main story, I watched the 100% ending online as I can't see myself looking for all the Ridder trophies but I did enjoy solving the puzzles for the 50 or so that I did find. Only the huge number of trophies make the game feel like a slog as I enjoyed resolving the other Most Wanted missions during the story and it really helped develop the world and give you a range of villains to fight. Had there been much fewer Riddler trophies, I would have taken the time to complete (or try to for Penguin) the other Most Wanted missions.

Knight feels the most story-heavy of all the games, though perhaps this is due to the long time since I played the other 3 games. In any case, I enjoyed the tale that was told and how Scarecrow sat alongside the Arkham Knight as the main villain while other notable nemeses were woven into the narrative. I did not guess the identity of the Knight and was very surprised to see how the story played out especially given that Red Hood is in Gotham Knights.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I thought that *Warning Arkham City Spoilers* Joker's supporting role was well done and gave him a unique place in the Arkham series' final chapter without somehow reviving him after his death in City.

Given the poor reception that the PC version had on launch, I was happy with how it looked and performed using my 1070. My only negative point is that the framerate seemed to dive quite a bit once I had unlocked Founders Island, even when I was back on Bleake and Miagani Islands for some reason.

Overall, I would say it is a fantastic finale to Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy that builds upon the first two games to deliver a wonderful send-off for the Dark Knight. While Asylum's tight design is great for the pacing of the game, I feel that part of the appeal of Batman is in roaming the city whether gliding or driving the Batmobile. This is one of the reasons I preferred City to Asylum and also why I would put Knight at the top of my list. Origins felt a lot more focussed than City so I would give it the slight edge and put my rating of the series as:

Knight > Origins > City > Asylum

Is this an unpopular opinion? I thought it was great! One of my favourite aspects of the game and not something I've seen much in games before.

I had the feeling that people weren't happy to see him shoehorned back in after City suggested that the sequel would he would very much be absent. When Knight was announced, I wondered what it would be like without the Joker. I thought that game would again cast multiple villains from Batman's Rogues Gallery as City did so Joker's absence would be quite conspicuous. Maybe I've overthinking the number of 'oh, the Joker again' reactions.

I also thought the way this was done was probably the best part of the game. The VR experience is also worth a go if you ever get the opportunity as it does the same sort of thing, but being 'in' the game really enhances it.

I don't think it's shoehorned in at all, they execute it perfectly and it's really well done exploration of the affect Joker's death had on Batman and how it influences him going forward. It's definitely one of the best parts of the game for me.

And to be honest, more Mark Hamill as the joker is only a good thing. The way he says Bats  :datass:

Arkham knight was superb, just the bat mobile sections were pretty ropey and then they kept coming, especially those ones on the final island.

Regarding the spoilers:

I think over time the angst against having Joker involved (again) has died down, especially because it doesn’t come so soon after playing the other games. I think they came out every 2-3 years and they kept using Joker and it was a thread that runs through the series. But, and I agreed at the time, they could have done so much more with other villains and just left Joker out entirely. Not that it was bad, just could have done more.

The entire Arkham saga is great, with City comfortably at its peak to my eye. I don't share the exact criticism in regards to having Joker featured quite heavily in Knight - though I can definitely understand why some may have taken the Joker infection storyline as being, yet again, the most prevailing focus of the entire game - but my grievance with Joker is how he derailed my expectations in Origins moreso than subverting them, if that makes any sense at all. I was sold on the premise of Black Mask being the main antagonist and, as great as Troy Baker's performance was, I found myself much more invested in that initial, simpler premise.

My only other grievance is with how Knight handled (or rather shat on) Deathstroke's character. I was geared up to go toe-to-toe with the guy, but instead he hides behind an army of strawberry floating tanks. It also doesn't help that the stealth gameplay wasn't enjoyable in the batmobile whatsoever.

Troy Baker did an incredible job as Joker.

I'm going to start another play of Origins over the Christmas period. The Batman at Christmas time setting is just so atmospheric.

Definitely my personal favourite of the franchise.

Oblivion - Knights of the Nine - 5/10
Pretty average, this. Mostly fetch quests and blatant padding. The weapons and armour were interesting, but I was so overpowered by that point anyway that it didn't really have much use.

Oblivion - Shivering Isles - 6/10
An interesting idea, but the reality was actually quite dull. Again, lots of padding, everything made to be as drawn out as possible, etc. I didn't bother with any of the side quests or any exploring as a result, and just did the main quest line. Was okay.

Half-Life - 6/10
+ Reasonable variety of weapons
+ Good variety of locations
+ Good level design

- Plot was pretty rubbish
- Too long
- Rubbish jumping sections

Ehh...it was fine. I didn't experience it on release, so I'm sure a lot of the impact was lost on me playing it for the first time in 2021. Plot was a bit crap - I didn't really care, it didn't really explain much, and seemed fairly bare-bones. The variety of locations was good, but it went on for too long. Would be difficult to recommend this these days.

The Last of Us Remastered

Finished this during the early hours of this morning. It's a very polished game in many areas, but the gameplay loop becomes very repetitive very quickly and it doesn't change enough to keep things interesting. In fact it becomes quite boring after a time as you move from one area to the next and just keep doing the same thing over and again. Also the gunplay is all over the place. Great story, well acted, lovely visuals, but let down by rinse and repeat gameplay and shoddy combat.

6/10

(I'm sure I enjoyed TLoU more the first time I played it on PS3, so perhaps on a second play through the game just doesn't hold up?)
