Severed - 6/10

Kinda disappointed by this, love the developer, this is a bit of tough one to really love. The combat is great, even if at some points, it throws too much at you. But that's it. The rest of it isn't very interesting.

Tower of Guns - 6/10

After few attempts I started to enjoy it, but after good amount of runs I didn't feel too keen on playing more and more of it. As soon as I had last achievement pop i felt I was pretty much done with it, for a roguelike game I've played better.

Still worth a try if can be on cheap, back on Game Pass / whatever or playing on friends account, if any.

But yeah, glad I didn't pay for it

Oxenfree was one of those indie games I just didn't get.

I'm starting to think I'm out of touch. But then again, other people might be wrong.

I didn't rate Oxenfree at all, and I usually love gooseberry fool like that.

Undertale - 8.5/10

Did a playthrough in one evening. Very memorable with good music and a lot of charm. Have now watched the alternative endings on YouTube, as there's no way I'm doing multiple playthroughs any time soon.

Resident Evil (REMake) - 10/10

Still as brilliant as ever. I played tonight going for the Ink Is For Squids achievement, which I managed to get after a false start about two thirds of the way through the game. Also randomly unlocked another two achievements for 100g overall. Not a bad night's work.

Forza Horizon - Xbox One

As 4 is coming out this week I thought i'd finally get round to getting through the first game. While its interesting to see where the series has come from and the moment to moment driving is great, the setup and structure didn't do much for me.

The entire singleplayer is a big chain of one-off events where the only thing that matters is total points accumulation to get to the finale - to its credit you don't have to win everything to get to the end as there are more than enough events. This highlights one of the racing genre's core problems, certainly at the arcade end. In real life most racing drivers don't come first and often there are teams battling each other at different places in the pecking order. The problem is that games like this have to have you win constantly to progress, if that makes sense. There is no joy or honour in a hard-fought 5th place and the vast majority of races are so short that you have to push 100% of the time.

Speaking of the races, each tier of events has its own senior driver who berates you from a set of phrases at the start of each race, until you unlock their one on one challenge to shut them up and win their car. These never feel like actual adversaries, just another ai to blast past.

I've never been as mad for the showcase events as the marketing for Horizon would like me to be: they are very short compared to the rest of the game and are glorified time trials with some clever rubber banding to make you win by a fraction every time. It felt like the main races were like that too - even on the hard ai setting with simulation steering and no assists, about halfway through every race the ai would seem to slow down and i'd blitz past with minimal effort. By the end i could almost predict when it was going to happen.

I didn't technically "finish" the game as the last one on one race with the guy you just dethroned is maximum bullshit. I'd been smoking this guy in every race in the final series yet for this he boosts off like a rocket and is glued to the road. I've never been into horizon for driving the superfast cars, certainly not on open roads with traffic and bumpy verges, so the thought of doing this 8 minute race which is mostly redlining along the highway over and over does not fill me with enthusiasm. I'm happy to move on to 4 when it comes out this week.

7.5/10

Yup. It got its claws into me in the opening few seconds, then completely lost me after about an hour. Annoying characters doing annoying things, boring gameplay, unoriginal story, a decent twist. I spent £3 on it and still felt like I didn't really get my money's worth.

Having been enjoying A Hat in Time I had my eye on Super Lucky's Tale. What's so bad about it, I thought it looked quite good fun?

Controls are terrible and fiddly , level's are repetitive, It's setup lvery much identically to a modern Mario game which is a mistake as you immediately make that comparison and compared to a Mario game, it's dreadful. Just doesn't have anything like the level of imagination that goes into those games.

All my opinion I'm sure some would enjoy it, if you are on Gamepass you've got very little to lose, but it's not for me, control system is everything in a platform game, the 4 year old is the only reason the credits got to roll across my TV screen!

Cheers.

I don't have Gamepass, so might take a look at a later date.

Ya I found it a little tedious and the dialogue inane and unnatural too.

But I'd certainly play a different game built around a more developed version of the satisfying Radio mechanic (with Switch's HD Rumble) with the same visual aesthetic and music. Just not the characters and the walk-to-advance-boring-story gameplay.

Resident Evil 0 - 9.5/10

Obviously this is pretty much my favourite game series. Went back to the XBox One version of Zero over the last 24 hours to mop up a few of the achievements I missed, like completing the game without using health items or completing the game on Wesker mode. Mopped up around 220g from it, and got to go back through a genuinely fun game again twice in the process.
