Metroid Fusion- 7.5/10
I didn't appreciate the linearity of this, the way it rail roaded exploration. Gave me bad memories of Other M. That being said, I did enjoy this game and it was generally as well designed as Super. The SA-X moments were really well crafted.

A plague tale : 7/10

Pretty nice little game, looks great in places (the swarms of rats are very well done). Quite linear, refreshingly so actually as it could easily have had more open areas just for the sake of it. The annoying kid you have to escort most of the time, plus some frustrating aiming issues dragged it down.

Catherine: Full Body Edition (Switch)

Fun puzzle game with a good, mature story about people a bit older than most Japanese animated stuff (lets call it anime) is aimed at. But people still younger than me tragically.

Problematic twists aside (i'm honestly not sure how problematic they are, but i'm guessing at least somewhat), i found it really engaging and finished it in about 17 hours within the week i started it.

At first the puzzles seemed too difficult, but over time you start to spot the patterns and become adept at making good progress from seemingly hopeless situations. Good accessibility options are present, so you can drop difficulty levels / skip levels if required.

I'm actually tempted to make some different choices and see how it effects the ending. I think i got the wholesome virtuous one. I disgust myself sometimes.

Resident Evil 2 Remake (about two months ago)

Took me a few goes due the frustration of the tyrant chasing me, but once I got into a rhythm and knew how to deal with him I found myself enjoying it more. Surprisingly even with the tyrant I found the first half of the game more engaging.

7/10

Resident Evil 7 (a few weeks back)

I really enjoyed this even though it scared the crap out of me. Some of the boss battles were frustrating however.

Mass Effect

7/10

The gameplay hasn't aged well and the side quests/planet exploration are dull but the story is still excellently presented and gripping.

Very keen to start ME2 but will probably play the new Ace Attorney first.

Metro Exodus (Enhanced). Having played the previous games and enjoyed them, it took me a while to get around to this. Not a problem given we got the enhanced Version with ray tracing and Global illumination. Those graphics are incredible, and really fit with the atmosphere of metro, but also with what they do in this version, with 4 very different areas and environments, that also opens it up to be semi open world (without the Ubisoft clutter).

The actual FPS part of the game is satisfying but I like that it doesn’t just keep throwing more and more enemies at you. There is plenty of variety and approaching it as an FPS gets you dead fast. It encourages a mix in approach. The crafting mechanics are also excellent, and you feel like you are in a post apocalyptic world where resources are scare and you need to hunt for them. Equipment gets damaged, gets dirty, and requires you to find workbenches to fix. As the game went on, this aspect got harder and having guns jam through dirt/use, added to the atmosphere which is also very well done between the environments.

Story telling is good and a nice change to previous metro games with the new environments. Exodus creates a brilliant atmosphere backed up with excellent graphics, solid shooting but well thought out crafting/exploration and stealth aspects that meant I really enjoyed it.

One of the best games I’ve played in the last year.

9/10

Deadly Premonition Origins (Switch).

I fell in love with this game when i played the Directors Cut version on PS3 about 5-6 years ago. It will always be a 10 for me, so this is more a rating of the Switch edition.

I found it to be far more glitchy than the PS3 verison ever was, and it crashed about 8 times during my 20 hour play through. Frame rate is pretty bad, but i got used to it. Load times are ok, but there are quite a lot of them. None of the scenes added in for the PS3 directors cut were in this one, which i dont actually mind.

In summary a bad (but playable) port of an excellent game (in my opinion). Those characters are still some of the best in any game ever, and the music gives it a tone like no other, but if you can play it anywhere else, I would advise that you do.

No rating because i refuse to put a number lower than 10 next to a DP review.

After nearly 15 years of trying I’ve finally beaten Ninja Gaiden. I am so happy as Ninja Gaiden Black broke me back on 360.

Dang, yeah, I have only dabbled with the Switch version but it does seem to be a very mediocre port; it could have benefitted from quite a bit more polish.

This is a completely understandable approach, kaz. DP is always a 10 excusing all the clunky and ropey and annoying and rubbish bits because it is perfect.

Congrats and "gg", Cumberdanes! It sounds like you have vanquished a long-standing demon :toot: .

Well, I've finally finished a game!

It's, err...Cat Quest. This is a solid 6 or 7 out of 10.

Quite basic gameplay, which involves simple combat plus some special attacks, with the whole adventure being about raiding dungeons, killing all the monsters and collecting coins / weapons etc. There are also an incredible amount of cat puns.

For me, it was quite fun and easy to pick up and play in the odd half hour here & there. So, I found I was playing it more than anything really involved because that really suits how I play.

So, whilst I've said it's a 6 or a 7, for me it's more like an 8. After all, I've actually bothered to finish it.

The Touryst

Cutesy, pixel-y RPG lite. It's extremely laid back, bereft of challenge, and the majority of tasks are nothing more than glorified fetch quests. But somehow it actually all works quite well. I think it's just a really nice chillout game for playing between more substantial adventures.

It looks really nice with its chunky Minecraft style graphics. The platforming plays nicely enough and the game doesn't outstay its welcome, clocking in at around 5 hours. Definitely recommended if you need to switch your brain off for a few hours and relax.

Agent A: A Puzzle in disguise (Switch)

I bought this on a bit of a whim, it was 99p on the eshop, and seemed to be reviewed pretty well as far as I could see.

It didn't take long before I really clicked with the game - it's a point and click style interface, with gameplay a bit like the 'Move North' , 'Light Lamp' games of the olden days, but with no text interface. Puzzles are a mixture of 'use x with y', some logic puzzles, a bit of hide and seek, codes etc.

What really worked for me was the difficulty level- there were points where I really thought I'd exhausted all options, left it for a bit to do something else, had a lightbulb moment, came back to the game and carried on. I was determined to get through without a guide and sure enough I did, with a great sense of achievement having not resorted to cheating- You definitely get a great feeling of satisfaction finishing all on your own.

So for this type of game, at such a bargain price, I'll give it 8/10

It's quite short, so bear that in mind if you think you're in for an epic adventure. It's listed as 4 hours at howlongtobeat.com
