It was still comedic true, but the switch to more of a shooter was a bad move in my view, as was giving Jak a voice and turning him all emo on us.

More than anything I think I was just disappointed that we didn't get more of Precursor Legacy as I loved it so much. Also Ratchet & Clank had come out by that point I believe and did the 3D platformer + shooting thing far better for me.

Walking Dead Season 2 on PS3. Overall I enjoyed this but much like the first one it didn’t seem like any of the choices really meant much.

Apologies for double posting but; My Name is Mayo on PS4. I just paid 99p for a platinum trophy... it was worth it 10/10

EDIT: to avoid triple posting, I just finished Burly Men at Sea on PS4. It was a fun but quite basic game, almost a flow chart in video game form. 6/10

Layers of Fear (Xbox One X via Game Pass)

Effective, harrowing, 4-5 hour story. Not terrifying, but deeply unsettling.

There were a few technical issues that brought the effectiveness down for me a touch, there did not seem to be enough contrast to the graphics, meaning that you were either in pitch black for the majority of the time, or everything was a bit grey and washed out. This was s shame, as there were some really visually striking moments.

Audio too was a mixed bag. Headphones made it very immersive, and there were some clever touches used throughout the game, but also there were many times when audio cut off abruptly when leaving an area, removing you from the experience somewhat.

Overall though i thought it was a good "game" and well worth the small time investment it requires. It seems that there are other endings available, but the requirements for them seem overly demanding, and i don't think its the sort of game best played with a guide in one hand, its all about headphones and an unlit room.

Telltale Batman on PS4. I rather enjoyed this, I wasn’t on board with the odd take on the Batman mythos to begin with but it grew on me. Just picked up Season 2 also so I’m looking forward to see what happens next.

Dead or Alive 6 (PS4)

Can you really "complete" a fighting game? Well outside of the 104 quest modes all other game modes and tutorials have been completed and I played a few online matches.

DOA 6 is a solid fighter that looks and plays fantastic, but once again Koei Tecmo are taking the piss with the overpriced season 1 pass and now a content unlock system that is a huge grind. Unlike before costumes aren't unlocked in their entirety, instead 'parts' are randomly unlocked irrespective of which character you're using. You can earn points to spend on accessories, but again it's very much a grind. Clearly, like DOA 5, this has been built to encourage the buying of DLC.

So a superb fighting game where it counts, but let down by overpriced DLC and a hours of grind if you just want to unlock, for example, Ayane's classic DOA costume.

Katamari Damacy Reroll - 8/10

Whilst I didn't play the original, I did play Beautiful Katamari on 360, so this all felt very familiar. The sheer inventiveness and perfect delivery of the idea still deserve high praise - along with the graphical style, these are the reasons the game has aged so well. The controls are not perfect and the level variety and challenge is low, but the bouncy soundtrack and great vibes mean I am happy to have it back in my collection for a reasonable price.

Manuel Samuel (Xbox One X via Game Pass).

Moderately fun 2 hour physics adventure, where each button controls a different limb of the protagonist. I felt that i had had enough after the main story was over, and did not feel compelled to attempt any of the time attack stuff that unlocks.

As is often the case with these types of games, the humour comes from people watch you being incompetent at attempting simple stuff, and although it is fun for a little while, it felt like it had run out of steam by the end of the short journey. Probably quite amusing in the 2 player co op mode, and the perfect short experience that is included in to a subscription service like Game Pass.

Gris (Switch) - 7/10.

(Very) beautiful to look at, a little dull-y moody to listen to, and surprisingly pleasant to play; with decent game-feel and with some nice mechanics later on.

It actually gets better as you go through - the first area proper is easily the worst, with a turgid wind gimmick and overly-earnest music. It might be thematically true to go from crap to transcendent but it put me off the game initially. It never really becomes that engaging moment-to-moment but overall I would say it had a cumulative effect, and delivered a steady stream of novelty and surprise to the end. Occasionally it hits wonder and is even a little moving: I was glad to have played it all told.

P.S. It's really pretty.

Headlander. 7/10.

I did enjoy this, it was pretty easy and a game that didn't out stay it's welcome. I beat it in just over 7 hours, and that's with leaving the game on on occasion to deal with kids or go poop. Anyway it's a fun Metroid Ania, but instead of upgrades you switch bodies by removing the heads of robutts and then placing your head on the Robutts bodies. Anyway, it's well worth giving a gooseberry fool, more so if you have Gamepass, cause it's on there and that's how I got to play it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - A very good game, perhaps even great, but not without its flaws. The world is incredibly immersive and the game tells an interesting story with some great gameplay and missions. However for me it felt a little bloated and self indulgent, and occasionally it just forgets how to be much fun. 8/10

Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright 8/10
Really cool idea to bring Layton and Wright together in what is essentially two games in one. The Layton parts are fun enough but the puzzle elements are a bit disappointing as there's only 70 of them and they're all pretty easy. The Wright sections on the other hand are brilliant with some fun new mechanics. The game took me around 20 hours to complete and it did feel like it went on for a bit too long, but it's still a great adventure and I really hope the two meet up in a future game.

Subnautica 9/10

So this was a bit strawberry floating good.

Bought it back in early access back in 2016 for around £15 and dipped in and out (lol) ever since. I had one previous save with about 20 hours on it, but had to abandon it as they changed the creature aggression levels right while I was in the middle of a hostile zone. Went back about a month ago (after a gap of a year and a half!) and today I finally completed it.

I hate survival games in general, but this is good enough to be the exception. The slow build of stuff to create and the increasing distance they mean you can cover is done so, so well. You're always making progress, always working towards a new, exciting build project be it a new vehicle, a new piece of kit or a new building. Just tootling around in the massive Cyclops submarine is fantastic and strawberry floating terrifying once you start edging towards the deeper, darker sections of the map.

There's also a story, and although it's fairly rote it's written well and has some decent reveals and turns. The characters you encounter through PDAs are interesting and varied, and lay a decent groundwork to base a world off.

Highly recommended.

Gears Of War 2 (Xbox1 X via game pass).

Brilliant fun campaign, lots of good variety and more physics reactions from the enemies than the first game. Looks great on 1X. Looking forward to the 3rd game now.

The Swapper (as above)

Really impressive puzzle game. I found the puzzles were perfectly pitched for me, and the game had enough changes in ideas for the 7 hour play time.

Bit salty that I completed the game and unlocked no achievements mind.

Project Sylpheed – 6/10

+ Looks nice for the most part
+ Some pretty fun dogfights and objectives
+ Good depth if you want to bother tinkering with weapons etc, but you don’t have to

- Story is pretty wank
- Can get repetitive

I’d generally say that I enjoyed this, but I think that’s because it was very short. Took me less than 4 hours to complete, and given the repetitive nature of the game, that was about right. Any more would’ve been too much. There would be appeal in going back and replaying missions, aiming for more medals and better rankings, but I don’t have the time. Decent but flawed.

I can live without the achievements (thank you though), I just like having achievements placed throughout the game to act as milestones you can look back on.

Resident Evil 2 - 9/10

While I think I prefer the original in some aspects, I still love this game and honestly it may be one of my main picks for GotY this year. What I love is when they remade the game they also made sure it didn't get easier -- in fact I'd argue it's harder than original. Plus, it feels like very videogame which is weird to say but it's like it knows it's videogame and.... Eh I dunno how to put it in better words. Let's say it's damn great game and I look forward to what they can do with RE3 remake.

Only one problem is the boss fights aren't that fun, but they don't ruin it too much for me at all.

Resident Evil Revelations - 7/10

I like the game but I felt some aspects of the game brought it down and I never felt I was struggling on the resources, that being said it plays well and I had fun playing it.

Resident Code Veronica X - 7/10

I'd of given it 8 but I felt it went downfall in second half of the game. That being said, the first part is fantastic and I still do enjoy the fact it's first (and only) game where both Claire and Chris are playable characters, and when it does head into action aspects it still refrains survival horror roots. It has special place in my heart and even though I would give Resi 4 higher score I'd still prefer this (and Revelations 1 actually) to RE4 as Resi game.

Shame it has no subtitles :(

Resident Evil Revelations 2 - 8/10

Much, much better than first game - it felt like it truly captures the survival horror aspect, and I enjoyed having options of being stealthy as well.

It's shame it has horrible invisible enemy that ruined last bit of Claire's game, and I got bad ending by accident. Thankfully getting good ending didn't take long at all.

Barry's last chapter is bit meh, wish they didn't do mansion again but overall very good game regardless

The Long Reach - 6/10

Bought it on sale as it looked interesting. It's alright, was hoping for more but eh. For price I got it at I can't complain but at full price hardly worth it. There's also lot of trial and error at one point of game where I gave up and used guide for, it's not fun. Other than that worth a go if at sale price.

Metropolis Lux Obscura - 4/10

Only liked one ending. I like art style, and match 3 is nice. The problem is rest of endings are bleak, I don't really like the cast including main character, and felt there are much better match 3 games out there.

Also too many tits.

Starlink - repetitive but a good Ubisoft game. It really doesn't reward experimentation, best to stick to the same pilot and ship and even load out as everyone can be beaten by the same weapon if it's been powered up enough. I played on PS4 pro and can imagine it would be loss better on Switch with Fox as a character.

It's still a fun game to play through with large planets and a lot to see. But the enemies are just a fire version of X enemy or a bigger version .

I'm happy I played through it and will go back to try a few more characters out.

Wish my image sig would work
