Super Monkey Ball 3DS 6/10
Really fun game but the main game is so darn short, I completed the main game in about an hour. Glad I only paid £3 for it.

Pokemon Shield - Completed the storyline at least. Fairly enjoyable but I think I'm just growing tired of the franchise by now. I didn't find the Dynamaxing mechanic added very much to the game and otherwise the formula seems very much as it has been for a long time. 7/10

Dark Souls Remastered - 8/10

Great port, I think. Only had two instances of framedrops during heavy boss fights.

I still feel that the tail of the game declines in quality. New Londo and the Duke's Archives are fine. The Crystal Cave, Tomb of the Giants and Lost Izalith are shite.

Ori & The Will Of The Wisps - 9.5/10.

Improved on the original in pretty much every way.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Completed the story but still have quite a few bits to tidy up for 100%. A very worthy follow up to the original if perhaps not quite as good overall. Some issues with performance with plenty of slowdown and the occasional crash (happened maybe 3 or 4 times). Also I don't know if this one seemed a bit more combat heavy than the first, which personally I didn't like. Some cool new powers though and still as beautiful as ever. 8.5/10 (original was a 9/10)

Dragonball Advanced Adventure on GBA. This was a pretty fun hybrid of a scrolling beat 'em up and a vs fighter. Nice graphics and sound, controls very well by only complaint is that some of the bosses are a bit overpowered. 7/10

DKC3 isn't as good as 2, but I think it's much better than 1. Might be a bit of hot take there.

Nah not at all.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Finished Doom 2016 again, and also finished Pikuniku. Doom is still a blast, Pikuniku was really enjoyable and funny in a bizarre way. I hope they make a sequel.

Gears of War 3 - 7/10

+ Looks pretty good
+ Gunplay and cover mechanic is still enjoyable
+ Nice variety in environments
+ Does a reasonable job of mixing up the action to stop things being as repetitive as they might

- Plot is a bit 'meh'
- Teammates always getting in the way
- Movement is clunky and slow
- Always with those damn stalks

Enjoyed this overall, but can't say I feel particularly inspired to play the fourth or fifth entries.

4 and 5 are alright, I could never fully get into the new characters though.

Strider on PS4. I picked this up for buttons back in January and man was it worth it. It’s a really good, albeit slightly brief Metroidvania type game. It’s a tad more linear than most games in the genre unless you want to find all the collectables (which there are a lot of) but definitely worth a look.

8/10

Tearaway - Vita

I turned my Vita on for the first time in years to replay Resident Evil 2 but I ended up finally playing Tearaway instead.

It was cute and pleasing but nothing really special. An interesting idea but I'll probably forget about it pretty quickly. Funny as that's exactly how I felt when I played Little Big Planet all those years ago and I just found out it's made by the same developer.

Nioh 2 - beat the final boss and unlocked new game + / way of the strong difficulty.

Such a fun game. I'm straight back into it and already got some divine equipment and levelled up nice and quickly in the new game.

A brilliant game which is basically Nioh 1.5 rather than a true sequel as it's very much more of the same but without living weapon and some new abilities.

I've already bought the season pass and will keep playing for the foreseeable future.

Wish my image sig would work

Just finished Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden.

Great TBS game available on Gamepass and I really enjoyed every second. If you like strategy games then give it a whirl as I think it'll surprise you with how good it is.

9.5/10  .

Rdr 2 - spent a lot of time during the first week of lockdown completing this. Not overly surprised by the ending, but did enjoy the epilogue, even though it was a little too long. I didn’t overly enjoy the game at the beginning, but by the end i must say I really appreciated how much time and effort rockstar went to building such a great world full of life. Will replay this one day and hope it gets a next gen remaster with even better graphics.

The last of us - started replaying this in preparation for the sequel and completed it quite quickly. Great game that did feel its age in terms of the static game world and graphics, but brilliant.

Return of the Obra Dinn (Xbox One) [8]

A great concept and very original. Loved the presentation, too - it gave me a huge sense of nostalgia, like playing games round my mate's house on his dad's old Macintosh. In fact, the whole game gave me the same sort of feeling as playing one of the good old point and click games, where solving one of the puzzles gave a huge sense of achievement. When it works well, when you infer the right perpetrator and victim from a combination of disconnected incidental pieces of information, it makes you feel like Columbo.

Loses marks because the achievements didn't pop for me and some of the cases involved a fair bit of guess work, based mainly on the nationality / accents of the voice overs in the memories. For instance, I'm not sure how one is supposed to sort the Chinese crewmates as, apart from the language / accent clues and the positions where they work on the ship, there was little that could be used find who was who. Ultimately, I was left to 'game' the game's system, rotating names through the log until I was told I'd found a correct combination, which felt somewhat underwhelming.

However, I'd love a 'return' to this concept. Another 'who done it' using this game's concept which be great, particularly as it does take some getting used to as it's such a novel concept.

Titanfall 2

Honestly I really got in to that at the end. Probably going to give it an 8.

Rage 2 - 7/10.

Very samey but still enjoyed it especially the combat. At least it had a proper ending unlike the 1st game.

Inside - 7.5/10.

Didn't have the same impact as their previous game. Well contained story and some decent puzzle platforming.

The last of us remastered - great game, although felt last gen in some parts. Second time completing it and felt much shorter. 9/10

Rdr2 - never really got into this from the very beginning and did the odd mission here and there over the months. When lockdown came i spent some real time with it and played it all the way to completion. Such high quality from the graphics to the way the world just feels alive. Its a game you really need to spend time with. I hope it gets a remaster next gen so i can replay it, but this time do all of the side missions. 9/10
