I know this'll be a personal taste thing, but it really does depend on the game. Something like Tony Hawks or SSX - those soundtracks are curated to capture their sport's subculture and are such a large part of the game. Then you have rhythm games which kind of feel like cheating but you can easily imagine Guitar Hero being praised for its available songs.

Ban request

But also, depends if we're talking best music in isolation that you'd listen to on its own, or best music as an element of the game. If it's the latter Ocarina is hands down the winner for me, but it is so tied up to playing the game with its leitmotifs and story beats (and the sound design in general).

Good post. Some interesting points well made!

Bit weird to talk about yourself in the third person but okay.

This list needs a lot more Guitar Hero 3.

Nice list. I would also include the board where you have to buy up hotels. I forget which installment, but it's on the Wii.

Top 5 game casings
SNES and N64 (chunky cardboard boxes :datass: )
Japanese Gamecube (cute little cases fitting to the wee-sized discs, not the bog-standard DVD cases we got over here)
Switch
Mega Drive
PS3-5 (I think they are blu-ray cases? Somehow more pleasing than PS2's DVD cases).

I saw the title and was immediately annoyed Hades wasn't in the list. And then I realised.

That last one is what again?

Ironhide wrote:Top 5 turn based JRPGs I have played

I'll jump on this too, with a list with precisely no overlap:

Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year Door (GameCube)
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (GBA/3DS)
Bravely Second (3DS)
Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver (DS)
Final Fantasy IV (SNES/GBA)

That last one could have been Pokémon XD, or the original Paper Mario, or probably a bunch of other games I'm forgetting. On the whole though I don't care much for pure turn-based battles these days. The Mario games at least have some real-time element.

Good man!

2. Untitled Goose Game
3. A Hat in (the Ocarina of) Time
4. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
5. What The Golf?

Not sure if Sakuna counts? It was made by a two-person team but then published by Marvelous and released at retail at almost the same time as eShop. If not that then Undertale takes fifth spot, with caveats.
