PostRecurring Dreams
by RJ Badman » Wed Sep 09, 2020 5:11 am

I have the worst recurring nightmares, I think.

From the age of about seven to about 29 I had a nightmare about every two to three months - different situations, but essentially the same thing: being chased by the T-1000. Robert Patrick is easily the scariest movie baddie 'cause he looks like anyone, he's fast and he is literally knives. Occasionally there was a nightmare with Jason Voorhees, say, or similar, but they're slow and lurching whereas the T-1000 is sprinting metal. Like Dragonforce but more musical. And more metal. And faster.

As of the last best-part-of-a-decade, though, it's been replaced by a much worse nightmare that I have much more regularly and even last night: I'm either in a charity shop where I find overpriced retro consoles, or I find retro consoles in a skip and they work but then I wake up and they don't exist.

Last night in my dream I even said, "I always dream about finding some awesome consoles, so glad I've finally got one" about the Mega CD II I found the next town over. D'8

I have a few recurring themes in my dreams:

Buying a huge house and then finding out it's falling apart
Being unable to lock the doors of my house
Violent altercations with my father
Being back at school and thinking "I should be at work"
Crashing my car or driving dangerously
Catching coronavirus

I had one last night that I regularly have which goes along the theme of I've got a flight somewhere exotic/expensive but I invariably always miss it because I leave it too late to pack/leave for the airport/get something important done
Last night I missed the plane because I wanted to get all the tyres on my car changed as I'd planned to take it with me and drive up mountains but I left it too late

When I was younger I used to have a fun recurring dream. Basically playing manhunt whilst skiing down some sort of ice kingdom which had a massive jump at the end.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

I used to have regular dreams about losing my teeth. It would be very realistic which was unsettling - I'd be dreaming about something else and I'd realise one of my teeth was loose, I'd run my tongue over the loose tooth and it would start to come out. Got to the point I was checking my teeth were still there when I woke up. I haven't had one in a while thankfully.

I gather teeth dreams are quite a common thing.

Sounds like the beginning of a Lovecraftian tale to me. Do you sometimes hear strange chanting in the night and catch glimpses of robed figures moving through the house?

Mine is ending up in a fight and my punches are in slow motion. Most of the times even when I connect a punch it feels like nothing, it makes me waking up sweating.

I genuinely cannot remember the last time I had a dream, or at least one that I remember. I don't even have that state of "half remembering" something when I wake up, just nothing.

I used to have various recurring dreams as a kid, mainly centred around death and dying in one way or another. :dread:

Recurring dreams I have had include:

Sliding down a giant cheese grater which slices me to pieces

Being dragged along the floor and up the walls by an invisible force (think the scene in LotR where Saruman attacks Gandalf in the tower).

All my teeth falling out

being an observer of movie like gun battles

body horror stuff like mutated limbs and body parts falling off.

So your dreams are exactly the same as your real life?

I have loads of dreams and more often than not they involve having sex with a woman I know and either fancy right now or did at some point in my life. Sometimes it will be a pornstar or hot celebrity.

My brain is so good to me .

I semi-regularly get dreams where I "wake up" from a dream, then something bad / upsetting happens, then I wake up for real. Or, as a variation, I realise I'm in a dream but whenever I "wake up" I realise I'm still dreaming again. They always leave me feeling worse than a normal bad dream where you just wake up the first time.

I have had the teeth falling out one too.

In my restless dream, I see that town. Silent Hill.

I'd clean you out in real life with a well placed right hook to your fat neck.

 I'm pretty sure I've been getting them since before Inception, but it would be very funny if that movie had given me years of weird nightmares!
