Like most Rockstar games from the past 15 years this would be much better if they had an editor.

Not had many glitches, but this made me laugh.

Why is The 10 year old Jack Marston written and voiced as a 25 year old man

It was a tough childhood back in the West, he was probably shaving and hunting deer before he left the womb.

Finally strawberry floating finished it. What the strawberry float was the point in that Epilogue, it’s like the Scouring of the Shire. Would have worked so much better as DLC or something, a really bizarre ending that showed up the lack of an outside voice to point out the games glaringly obvious flaws.

The music and visuals are stunning, genuinely stunning. Possibly the best in a non Nintendo game (the cruel cruel world song is fantastic).
The world design is superb, right up there with the best ever created, it’s certainly has the most natural authenticity to it. I did however have difficulty in finding how to have fun in it, the sense of exploration and adventure is actually pretty poor.

After coming down from my high with the game though (about 2-3 weeks in), where it was cruising into my top 10 ever, my enduring feeling is that Rockstar need to hire some actual game designers because after the first 10-20 hours it’s just bad. Ignoring the controls because they’ve been talked about to death, the mission design is the main offender because it’s just plain terrible. There are maybe 2 or 3 that stand out in the sprawling mass of repetitive boring busy work nonsense the game has you doing just to draw out it’s way way way too bloated story. I’d actually like to see some YouTube editor make a 90 minute cut of the games story packed with events across the world and all the music in the game as it could be brilliant

There’s a best game ever made in this somewhere, it’d just take a developer with a bit more humility to find it.

Completely agree with you. Bloated with little direction. And I loved the epilogue, mainly for the music but agree it was 7-8hrs of ultimately nothing but fan service. And we all know people should never get what they want.

The one thing rockstar did nail was Arthur and his story, but of course this was completely undone by the mission design. A character trying to do good is slightly ruined by a shootout mission that kills 50 sheriffs and pinkertons.

Still playing this and I’m still in Chapter Four. It is a long game and a lot of things to do as well. :o

Not that I am complaining though.

im still somewhere in chapter 3 but I have not played it at all this month I don't think. pretty sure I have only played it 3 times over the past 4 weeks in fact. as much as I loved just exploring the world, the game lost me with everything else. i'll force my way back to it at some point

How difficult would I be making the game for myself if I stuck to main quests only? I want to play the game but I don't want it to be a time sink.

Not difficult at all. It’s not a leveling up kind of game. After a certain point you earn more money than you can really spend.

I spent most of my time messing around in the second chapter before focusing on the story for the rest of them.

It’s worth doing some of the stranger missions/encounters as they reveal certain things about Arthur, especially if you play as honorable arthur.

That's really appreciated. Thank you.

Just spent the last hour hunting a large bear in this.

Bait doesn't work, but dragging someone screaming from a lassoo while riding horseback certainly does.

The moment the bear jumped out and mauled him to pieces was hilarious

Emergent gameplay

sawyerpip wrote:I haven't read your spoiler as I'm still in chapter 3 but I agree that the mission design is one of the worst things about the game. It's very restrictive, I failed a 'mission' yesterday where I was going fishing with Javier because I went slightly off the track to chase a three-star rabbit and apparently abandoned Javier. This of course meant I had to do the slow trot to the fishing site again and go through all the dialogue.

Forced walking is my only real criticism of the he so far at this stage.

Got to Chapter 3 yesterday, I'm enjoying this more as I stopped comparing it to RDR1 (RDR1 happens to be one of my favourite games). It's fun just to see what happens as you explore the area then deal with what happens.

One of stranger missions though...

Margaret. It was wild ride all way to the end. The last mission is.... something.

The online is also fun, but god I don't like "Battle Royale-lite" modes or the fact you can't specific pick mode you want to play on :/ Also the fact people destory you easily does kill confidence. Really hoping it'll improve as it goes out of beta, would like friend-only free roam (although there's chance it might not happen because I don't think GTA Online has that either)

It certainly picks up once you get to Chapter 3, the area and it's inhabitants are much more interesting.

GTA Online has both invite only and solo online modes, so this game getting an invite only free roam should be good.

I've also only just hit chapter 3. I hadn't explored all that much of the area previously (only been to St. Denis twice since starting the game) so looking forwarding to putting as much time into this chapter as I did on chapter 2. Hopefully get some hours in over the weekend.

Wasn't aware that St. Denis was part of Chapter 3.

I've trekked there just to scope the place out, but none of the missions have directed me there yet.
