I played RDR1 all the way through (was one of the few open-world games I've ever got close to 100% completion on) and I have to say, I don't think it's necessary to have played it to enjoy RDR2.

RDR1 came out 8 years ago, I can't remember anything about the story other than the ending.

I have to warn you to keep those hair tonics until chapter 4.

There's a mission in Chapter 3 that forces you to cut your hair and beard

Not really needed at all. This is set 10 years before the first game, so while it is cool bumping into characters from that game, there's not going to be any back story you're missing out on.

Any time I'm in a shop R2 comes up as a prompt to pull my gun, and then releasing it will shoot. Does this not happen for you?

When riding my horse or walking around I do have a prompt that says "Aim weapon R2", but I know that I don't want to aim my weapon so I don't press it...

Yeah it's not a problem 90% of the time but when I do want to aim my weapon, using my previous example of robbing a shop, I find that it's too easy to shoot your gun by mistake. I'm loving the game and think it's great but some of the choices with the control scheme are just plain odd.

This happened in one of my first missions. I was sneaking through the woods and was prompted to aim my gun with RT. I pressed it and just fired aimlessly alerting the enemy camp  :fp:

It's on PS Now and there'll be a free trial I think, if you haven't signed up yet.

Yeah, I did see that... but the lag is terrible for this game which isn't ideal for a game like this?

I would recommend going to Aberdeen Pig Farm in RDR2. Yes, that's an actual place in the game.

Enjoy it, folks.

Arthur's face when the couple says they're sister/brother.

It seems like it's an actual error in the controls. Holding R2 doesn't just aim your weapon, it fires it instantly. Not sure why they put it in like that, but it's very easy to avoid.

So... GTAV's on-foot shooting, but labelled incorrectly?

Can you look up old hints, they seem to disappear to quickly and there was just one about buying property in St Denis but I didn’t get time to read it properly.

I don't think you can buy property in RDR2.

This is brilliant.
Didn't think I'd buy it due to my limited gaming time. Was a bit on the fence after lots of complaints regarding controls. In the end, so many comments and stories from posts on here made me believe I needed to play it. No regrets.
I love the slow pace of it all. I can't be sure Rockstar intended this for certain, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't. To properly invest yourself in the life of a cowboy, you wouldn't sprint around like a tit on acid knocking into folk who'd take exception to your (lack of) manners, or trample over their dog. You'd be a calm mummy strawberry floater, trotting into town, measuring the climate, and only pulling out the pistols when needed - either for moral reasons or to get up to advantageous situations because you lean towards the criminal side of life.
I'm only on Chapter 2, but I'm playing as close as I can to a Roy Goode fella from Godless. Hopefully my shooting will end up being as good as his...

The start of Chapter 5 isn’t as good as I thought it would be.

Anyway back in the good old US.

And I’m dying. FFS.

There's a spot in Saint Denis that spawns two random horses every time you load, and as far as people can tell, every combination of breed and colour can appear there apart from one that is a reward for completing a Stranger quest series. You can even get horses that don't get unlocked in stables until very late in the story.

It's on a road in/out of the city. Save your game there during the day time (and weirdly, works best if it's a clear day), and then keep exiting the game (from the story menu) and reloading, and it will change the horses in the stable. You can't just load up, has to be exit, then load.

Feels like reloading at a trading post in NMS waiting for that exotic ship spawn
