Wasn't aware that St. Denis was part of Chapter 3.

I've trekked there just to scope the place out, but none of the missions have directed me there yet.

It may well not be part of the story for chapter 3, but it's in the same sort of area of the camp so will get explored by me just like the areas around the chapter 2 base were, that's all I'm saying.

After Garly kindly bought this for me, I have made it to Chapter 2 and have stopped the main missions while I explore. I wandered around, got eaten by a crocodile, recovered, found St Dennis and cleared out some rats for a saloon owner and then rode around on the trolley (it’s a strawberry floating TRAM America :x ) for a bit before getting a stagecoach back to Valentine. I have also hunted down some dirty debtors who owed my gang money, how strawberry floating dare they not pay us back. :x

So far I am enjoying myself!

I finished with this a little while ago. I had to kind of rush through the story in the end unfortunately but on the whole I liked it. Whilst not as fun as RDR it was still enjoyable.

It's a stunningly beautiful game, I liked the main character and I didn't mind some of the silly busy work. However, the main story was a bit of a slog a few hours in, with cut scenes taking forever (I ended up just skipping most of them in the end). Lots of samey missions too. Get to point A, get to point B, shoot out, run away. There were some chances to have some cool stealth missions which didn't end in yet another shoot out and escape, but even then the mission design made you have a shoot out anyway, making the stealth kind of pointless in the end.

The game is probably too big to really explore too much, but I liked the stranger encounters and finding weird little things like Man Bear Pig  .

Main issues were
- controls (still seemingly unchanged in 10 years). Clunky as strawberry float in places but luckily the difficulty of the game made it not a huge issue.
- No fast travel except from main campsite (considering how huge the map is this is inexcusable seeing as RDR had it)
- Epilogue. As much as I like John Marston, this didn't really need to be done. We know what happens to John so not sure why I needed to see how he bought a house.
- The stupid horse whistling thing. I'm aware this game isn't real life so I don't want to have to walk around forever when my horse is "out of range".
- Perfect hides. Whilst I don't really care about cosmetic gooseberry fool in games it would have been nice to do a few upgrades to my main camp. But they all needed perfect pelts and tbh, I just couldn't be arsed.
- Main ending. I would have preferred if Arthur lived. I know that was never going to happen but still. It certainly did not come close to the impact of the RDR ending.

Other than that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I was a bit overwhelmed at the start, but luckily you don't have to do all the stupid extra stuff to really progress in the game. I'd give it a 7/10 from my first play through.

I think if you didn’t skip cutscenes your opinion on the ending might be different. I thought the last chapter was a fascinating and engrossing bit of storytelling and and a bigger impact than the first one.

It took me a while to get into this. But i fell in love with the game, the story being the main driver.

Only section that i was non-plussed about was when it went to Guama and felt gameplay felt like an uncharted knock-off

Complete all the challenges will unlock 10th level. Think you have to finish 3-5 of each challenge to get the 9th level. Not sure how many though.

Ahh cool cheers, I'll just keep eye out on these -- just doing random stuff (both story and online) rather than rushing through story myself, I seem want to get lost with the world more than anything else. Didn't seem mind wasting a hour or so doing nothing

Stick with the controls they take a while to get used to. Also you will fall off your horse a lot by running into trees. Just be warned. You’re in for an epic adventure, take your time

Ive just started this game. Its very slow. What equipment / challenges / skills etc should you go for first to make the game less tedious?

I'm still on Chapter 3, feels like it'll be while before I get into Chapter 4

Also I found:

a farm house where there's blood everywhere and two dead folks... Then you go around the building and there's woman with a pistol and huge knife beside her, and the letters tells so much about the story.

Seriously it's fun to see what you can discover by trying to get into the buildings and see what kind of story if has if not loot.

I'm loving this area, don't want to move on really.

Stick with it, the opening level is just setting the scene. Will improve vastly when you move on

Fired this up last night. 8-)

Managed to save John before falling asleep from exhaustion only to wake up to find myself walking endlessly in the snow.

Went to bed.

Annoyed I fell asleep! That never happens!

I found that house quite early on and figured it must link to something later on, but so far it appears to just be a random scene that you stumble across.

Yeah there's good amount of them, and when they don't do much in gameplay wise it's still worth checking them out.

Also that bit does give you free starter pistol at max condition if you haven't bought another when you're able to dual wield.
