I'm about 60% through this. It's simply stunning. Do enjoyable just ride around and immerse yourself in the world. Utterly sublime.

It really is, isn't it? I've lost count of the amount of times I've set up a camp looking over a valley or some other gorgeous landscape and actually watched the sunset/sunrise in real time, with the fire crackling and the sounds of the environment providing the ambience. Love it

Probably why I'm nowhere near completing it :slol:

I've been off sick so I've been hammering it. It's fantastic.

Apart from when you lose a horse. That's heartbreaking.

Dead Eye targeting levels up automatically as you progress through the main storyline, so it doesn’t require much extra effort on your part.

Level 1: This is start of Dead Eye, which you earn during Chapter 1‘s Old Friends mission. It allows you to slow down time and drag the red X target across an enemy. It auto targets the enemy for you and can be frustrating, as it doesn’t offer the precision you want. Be quick with your aiming though, and you can tag multiple enemies.

Level 2: This is where Dead Eye gets really useful. You can now manually tag a shot on an enemy by tapping the right bumper (R1/RB). Tag multiple enemies or just one unfortunate guy with six shots from your revolver and pull the trigger for spectacular results. This unlocks during Chapter 2 and the Pouring Forth Oil mission.

Level 3: This seems like an incremental upgrade but is more useful than it sounds. You can now stay in Dead Eye mode after you’ve fired shots, allowing you to pick off another target you may have missed, or just tag another bullet on an enemy as they go down. Unlocks during Banking, the Old American Art in Chapter 4.

Level 4: You’ll need to reach Chapter 5‘s Fleeting Joy mission to unlock this level of Dead Eye, but you can now see the highlighted head and hearts of enemies. Hit these and you’ll perform one-shot kills. This is when Dead Eye becomes really useful for hunting animals as it allows you to get a clean kill and harvest the best pelts.

Level 5: As well as the head and heart you can now target lungs and stomach, specifically. You’ll be getting a lot more one-shot kills and they become a lot easier.

Don’t you have to do the challenges to get max level similar to health and stamina?

As others have said, it's so easy to just do nothing but somehow spend an entire evening doing it

I'm still hanging around Valentine, I love walking around taking it in, it's just such a believable place to be.

Manure. I HATE manure.

I was out riding about and someone was being transported to prison and I tried to greet the law men but they got shitty. I said sorry, they still got shitty. Now my policy so far has been

But these strawberry floaters shot me in the back :x

Bandana disguise on, pistol out, two headshots later and now I'm sportin' a fancy white lawman hat with a bullet hole in the front :datass:

You guys are making me think about giving this another shot...

(I may be more receptive to it than when I first tried it as I'm enjoying playing games again.)

Getting into this more now, the controls are still a pain but i'm doing a lot better with them now that i'm a couple of chapters in.

Also, on returning to camp, i came across this weirdness...

I'm up to the epilogue. Felt drained after the ending. Just a stunning game.

Have you reduced the deadzone to zero and upped the camera sensitivity in the control settings?

When I started playing this I was legitimately concerned that I wouldn't be able to play it due to awful controls. By the end I was head shotting bandits from 100 paces like it was nothing.

I haven't changed the settings yet as i didn't want to make things worse, but i'll try what you suggested and see how i get on.

Still doing strawberry float all and taking hours doing it :datass:

Robbed a homestead as a mission and a trophy popped after it which was for 3 robbings, so I must have unwittingly done a few while poking around.

The environment is stunning in places, I got proper goosebumps slowly riding through a forest last night, it's packed with detail and atmosphere.

I reckon I'm a good 15-20 hours in and I'm still on tutorial missions :fp:

I can’t remember what chapter I am on, but I recently did the mission where you getcaptured by the O’Driscolls and then have to escape them.

Most of my time has been spent pissing around and exploring rather than doing the missions. After stealing a boat I found an island with a prison on, I am hoping there is a jailbreak style mission set there later and it’s not like GTA:V where the prison just sat there doing strawberry float all.

One of my favourite aspects of the game so far are the random encounters...

I was messing around last night and came across a farmhouse. As I approached, some men started shooting at me and so I killed them all in revenge.

After robbing the house, I started exploring the outbuildings and found a stable with a dead guy in there, next to a dead pig that was wearing a pink frilly tutu. I am glad I killed them all – dirty bastards.

 brilliant

I had one last night where I was riding past a small farm, a guy shouted at me to come over, I did and he said to get lost and started shooting at me :x

I also got mauled by a grizzly bear and somehow survived, it was like the revanent :dread: I shotgunned the bastard in the face while on the floor to finish the fight off though 8-)
