I played the online for about...10 hours or so, and I was surprised by how few people were on. You’d think the Xbone version being on Gamepass would of helped, but no. Once you do the 2 campaigns a lot of the tasks seem really quite arbitrary and dull.

Not just me then! I had just assumed I was on at a bad time.

Rockstar abandoned RDR2 online because GTA online is such a cash cow.

Got to chapter 2. Very impressed so far.

Controls are a little fiddly, I don't think I'm riding my horse correctly and I don't understand the stamina system.

There was a marketing budget released recently, and it showed a massive spike in 2023 which people have taken to mean that's when GTAVI will be released.

Or 2023 will be when they announce the first trailer for VI, and it'll launch in 2025.

I think there was a ramp up in 2022, with the peak being 2023, which might indicate trailer in '22. But pretty much all big games seem to get delayed these days so 2025 is probably realistic.

Wasn't there also confirmation that Online's success led to the cancellation of several planned story DLCs a la GTA IV?

I'm actually back playing RDR2 and, fiddly though it is, it's still one of the most remarkable games ever made imo. If Cyberpunk comes close to emulating the feeling of place and presence this game has on the scale it's going for it'll be something special indeed.

Supposedly they were going to do a Undead Nightmare esque zombie mode and an Ocean's 11 Casino heist as single player DLC. The latter got repurposed for Online.

Theres a lot to take in at the start, but, it just takes a bit of time to get used to it. You'll soon be riding like a cowboy! (ahem).

It really does just drop you straight into it, doesn’t it? Genius, or madness?
I thought The Wire did that too. So there we go - RDR2 is The Wire of gaming.

I finally finished this a few weeks ago and thought I would mull it over.

I can honestly say other than Micah (for obvious reasons) I felt nothing for any of the crew, not a single thing, not even for Arthur. No connections or empathy. The only characters I felt for were Mrs Downes and her son. The environments were really nice, the hunting could be fun, I just felt the characters were flat and dull.

Nope, I just felt he was as bad as the rest and had no real redeemable qualities. The only reason he helped Mrs Downes was because he was trying to make good with what might come after his inevitable demise. You could argue he didn't know what would happen but with a society with no form of welfare he knew what would probably happen.

I started this a couple of weeks ago, and have been re-reading the impressions in this thread. I’d agree with most in here, you’re absolutely spot on with the excellence of the world design matched by the poor quality of the missions. I haven’t had a massive problem with the controls, but they aren’t great.

My biggest problem is despite how great the world is, there is no reward to explore it at all.

See a cabin that it’d be good to snoop around? Better not, as I’m likely to be gunned down.

Help a stranger at the side of the road? Better not, they might steal the horse I’ve been bonding with.

Explore that new area? Better not, or I’ll end up with a ridiculous bounty that’ll make playing the missions much more irritating.

It’s such a shame. That might be much more realistic, but it makes it much less fun.
