Played about 2hrs, it could get repetitive but right now in loving it. 1 Vampire can be a handful so imagine the terror of me walking into a feeding pack of them in a house…I shat myself and promptly got destroyed.

If the loop is me creeping about silently taking out humans with headshots and fearing Vampires nearby then this is going to be good. Used my 1 lockpick i had on the boot of a police cruiser and bagged myself that aforementioned silent pistol.

The AI of the red balaclava dudes is very bad, granted my sniper has a silencer on it but they don't react sometimes when their fellow soldier is dropped in plain sight. If I hit one without killing or shoot with a non silenced gun they do take notice and will investigate where you are.

I read somewhere that they are the lowest rank when it comes to AI though, the guys with helmets and body armour do seem to be far more reactive, the Vampires are excellent, just on the right side of terror, if you hear one has spotted you the ‘FUUUUUUUU’ factor is suitably panic inducing.

Ive no idea what any of this was like pre patch, not having silent take downs from behind tho must have been annoying. A perfect Halloween game, seeing as its set at this time if year also.

Finished this today, probably give it a 7.5. Enjoyed running around with my silenced weapons. Vampire's were pretty good, the normal enemy's less so. Story was run of the mill.

I played a fair amount of Redfall at launch and I do feel that the updated Xbox releases make for a substantially better game, as the basic gunplay is in a much better state at the higher frame-rate. Enemy AI seems to have been improved as well, and the game's analogue stick response is better by default. However, the mission design is still lackluster, and the world feels quite empty, even though the patch notes say the enemy density has been increased.

Assuming Arkane will continue development, clearly there are many areas for technical improvement, with some annoying visual glitches, oversights and outright bugs remaining in the updated code. I'm not sure that any amount of patching will make Redfall a truly good game, but Arkane has at least delivered the performance level it should have delivered at launch. And if this is the last hurrah for Redfall, at least the game is in much better form than it was five months ago.

Played a bit more of this post the recent update and it's definitely a more optimised game for sure, the performance really was trash on launch.

But that aside it's still comfortably the weakest game Arkane have made to date. It's just so trite, so run of the mill - there's none of that usual spark or inventive design that are usually the hallmark of their works. I can get some enjoyment out of exploring and picking off enemies, and there's some fun to be had taking advantage of the billions of obvious environmental objects they litter around for you to blow up etc. but there's just so little driving force behind it, no compelling narrative or mission structure that makes any of it feel worth engaging with, let alone debating how you go about things.

I've no doubt that played as a group of 4 pals there's more enjoyment to be gleaned from teaming up and the bantz that go with it, but with virtually nobody playing it that's going to be hard to achieve. And when your whole back catalogue of games have been exclusively targeted at solo players it does feel like a hard sell to suddenly try and switch to a team co-op dynamic!

Yeah, I get the feeling that co-op would be fun, Jez from windows central said he hears they want to keep working on it, believing in a ‘redemption arc’ if sorts. I’m not sure whats plans they have but I get the feeling it would have to be a huge undertaking to fix the run if the mill things, almost a start again type situation.

Its an OK game, but I can’t see how theu can restructure it to change it up enough. For an Arkane game its well below par. The character models need major work, the title screen and menu showing my character looks xbox 360 like, it doesn't effect the game too mich because its first person but the characters look odd, its almost like Sea of Thieves but with none of the charm, they barely resemble their CG counterparts.

AI/NPC

Shrouds, Anglers, and Siphons are now gated from spawning in the open world until players reach a specific level, or complete certain missions.
Balanced enemy abilities and traits:
Siphon’s Blood Torrent ability takes longer to interrupt when breaking line of sight.
Increased Siphon’s resistances to fire.
Vampires deal more damage to Bribón and Devinder’s Quantum Kerfuffle decoy when attacking from close range.
Soulless enemies deal more damage when attacking players from close range.
Watchers react faster to players in line of sight, and spawn reinforcements in combat more often.
Human enemies are now able to climb awnings.
Improved quality of enemy pathing and human movement animations.

Gameplay

Jacob's Camouflage Field skill will no longer cancel ADS for non-Jacob players.
Devinder's Ultraviolent Light skill no longer shatters Special vampires, and instead inflicts a large amount of damage to them. Regular vampires will still shatter.
Layla’s Psychic Shockwave no longer triggers multiple times from vampire lunge attacks.
Deathmist Spewers now respond to the UV burst from Emergency Flash Bang Blood Remnants.
Co-op players no longer lose their crouching ability when exiting a nest.
Bound civilians no longer show as cultists when pinged.

Missions

Refined search areas for several missions.
Added more respawn points to minimize cases where players are blocked from respawning after death.
Fixed locations where Devinder’s Translocate device can be thrown out of world.
Improved NPC patrol paths
“Amelia's Eulogy” triggers correctly after reloading the game.
Resolved issues with hostile and friendly states in “One of Us”.
Improved Totality’s responsiveness during the Black Sun boss fight.

Heroes

All damage-dealing Hero abilities will now shatter vulnerable Nest hearts.
Jacob’s Six String backpack cosmetic is now shown with other Backpack cosmetics.
Hero thumbs should no longer clip into assault rifles when equipped.

User Interface

Improved visibility of player locations on the Map.
Added input curve visuals for Input Response settings.
Voice chat now has a separate volume control option in the Audio Settings Menu.

Accessibility

Added Single Press options for the following toggle-Hold interactions: ADS, Continuous Fire and all Menus.
Screen narration no longer repeats the narration for the "Close" prompt when navigating the System Menu.
Fixed an issue where all platforms read as ‘Xbox’ by the screen narrator.
Pop-up countdown is narrated properly during first time use of the Accessibility Menu.
Speech-to-text messages now appear in front of the blur of dialog menus in the Main Menu.
Message-of-the-Day carousel no longer receives focus priority after exiting out of pop-up windows.
Increased player flashlight's fade speed when reflecting off surfaces.
Reduced Rook lightning dash attack impact brightness.

Audio

Hero outfit foley has been updated and balanced to reduce loudness.
Resolved issues with audio skipping during psychic echo playbacks.
Resolved an issue where music would stop playing after a player was revived during a vampire god fight.

Performance & stability

Traversing through Deathmist should no longer cause performance issues.
Resolved issue with contact shadows interfering with self-shadowing.
Resolved issue with some Game Settings not persisting between game launches.
Restored default windowed mode to ‘Windowed Fullscreen’.
The game client now saves window location between game launches.
Various performance fixes related to FPS drops and stuttering.
Addressed edge-case crash condition with late joining game clients.

Much like the performance improvements and tweaks coming to Starfield, all of this is nice but doesn't fundamentally alter the fact that the core gameplay experience and mechanics are what need fixing (or more accurately: completely rebuilding from scratch)

Think I'll probably give this a farewell play soon. It always felt like it had some potential but in key ways the design was just the antithesis of what I want from an Arkane game :cry:

What's the game actually like? I have paid it nearly no attention, bar knowing it has a terrible launch - is it like Back for Blood?

The latter got panned at launch but to be honest, I didn't mind it. The card system got a lot of flak but I felt it had potential and only a lack of co-op playing mates meant I put it down.

Think of a really dumbed down Dishonored but with Vampires. You play alone, no bots filling up slots like a horde shooter.

Tone wise they nailed it and the soundtrack is great, 60fps is awesome but its just very bland… I did enjoy my first couple of hours and it got patched twice since so i might give it another try. Apparently its much better with friends.

I've not yet gotten around to playing any of the Dishonoured games, unfortunately. They are on my Gamepass list for when I finally get round to finishing my backlog. I should probably just bump the first one up to be top of the list, as I think it'd be right up my street.

First one is amazing and also uses FPS boost so its a silky smooth 60fps.
