PostReggie retiring from Nintendo of America after 15 years, Doug Bowser (eheh) to replace him
by Jazzem » Thu Feb 21, 2019 7:22 pm

After more than 15 notable years at Nintendo of America, and nearly 13 as its President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime will retire. His last day with Nintendo will be April 15. Doug Bowser, NOA’s current Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, will then succeed Reggie as President of Nintendo of America.

“I really appreciate everything Reggie has done for Nintendo,” said Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo Co., Ltd. “Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader. We are grateful that he is leaving the business in good shape with strong momentum. While we will miss him and we wish him the very best in his retirement, we are also pleased to have such an able successor ready to step into that role. Doug Bowser and the rest of the team will ensure a seamless transition and continued momentum for Nintendo.”

End of an era. Still remember the buzz around him at his first E3 in the magazines

Shame, feel like Reggie became as much as a Nintendo character as Mario or Link.

Not sure what his role was outside of marketing, but I'll miss his interviews at E3.

Will be sad to see him go I guess, he’s been a big part of some really fun Nintendo moments.

That said, he’s insufferable in interviews. He’s far and away the worst at PR among the 3 faces of the platforms (Spencer and Layden being the others). Though that might be a result of the control NOJ has over things and some of the gooseberry fool he’s had to shine up and try to sell.

Losing Reggie but Bowser takes over. Only in Nintendo could this happen!

Fair play to Reggie, awesome leadership where he was part of a team that brought nintendo back from near irrelevance.

Sad to see him retire, he always came across really well at E3 and during Nintendo Direct over the years. Felt like a big part of the change in direction Nintendo took to appeal to a wider audience, particularly in the West, after the poor performance of the Gamecube.

His appearances since the release of the Switch seem to have dwindled so this isn't too much of a surprise - his replacement has the perfect name for the job though!

This is the picture Nintendo shared when Doug Bowser was announced as Vice President

How long until the best bits of Reggie videos start pouring in? He certainly was a good character in presentations, though it does seem as though a legend has been built up around him that no-one else could possibly replicate - even someone with Bowser in their name.

Hearing he's dropping a major title in April, and finding out it's his job title.

I’ll certainly miss Reggie. Wonder if he’ll go out with a Nintendo Direct with him as the host

I hope so! And he should go out with that famous line he rode in on: "My name is Reggie, and I'm about kicking ass, I'm about taking names, and we're about making games."
