If she was anthropomorhisised she wouldn't be a million miles off let me tell you. Seriously, easily the best looking girl I've been with. I'd post a picture but, well we all know what happened last time.

So, I'm going to go ring shopping today. There's a bespoke jeweller in Newcastle that specialises in conflict-free diamonds.

Going to see what I can get, and for how much, then work out a way to pay for it and take it from there.

It's looking like we'll be going to Mexico next month (though still to be booked) so I reckon I'll pop the question on a beach one evening.

When you think about it, a conflict blood diamond is probably better. It shows that you care enough to put her ahead of some african villagers life.

Interesting angle. They are also cheaper, which is an important consideration in this tough economic climate.

Id just get a conflict one. If she asks and seems bothered Id be all like "yeah babe this is totally probably an ethical diamond".

She's going to want to see a certificate. She feels pretty strongly about this, having watched both Blood Diamond and 24 Redemption.

You can't fake a certificate, Falsey lad. That's what makes them special. Where would the world be if people went round pretending they could swim 25m if they could only do 10m, for example? Utter strawberry floating anarchy.

And jokes aside, you wouldn't be able to insure it without the authenticity cert. and not insuring it would be silly.

This conversation has never happened:

'Will you marry me?'

'Show me the certificate first you blood diamond bastard.'

Perhaps not, but we've talked about it so much that I guarantee it'd come up in the first 10 minutes.

I think we can all agree though, even if it has ruined cheap proposals for us, that Blood Diamond is a bloody good film.

Looking at the price of diamonds, I would be offended if somebody hadn't died when it was being dug out of the ground.

Ring update.

The independent place came out a bit more expensive than I was hoping for. Circa £1,800 for a 0.5 carat diamond in a platinum Tiffany setting.

Found a comparable ring for £1,400 online, which is far more like what I was hoping to spend. I've increased my credit card limit accordingly, and will take the plunge once I've shopped around a little longer.

Something like this:

Looks like we could be heading here, in the Dominican, which seems like a reasonable place to pop the question.

So do you have to buy that strawberry floating expensive ring, then buy another to give when you get married?

seems unethical as well - like yes it's meaningful but spending that much for something that has no use, over say giving it to charity or spending the money on something useful

maybe it'll make more sense if i'm ever in the same position.
