I'm pretty sure Australia does allow dual citizenship. It's just their senators that aren't allowed to be dual citizens, there was a story a few years ago about some Aussie senators who had to resign after it was discovered they were dual citizens.

At best they’re extremely funny about it - there was a story recently of them refusing to allow dual citizenship to several British citizens who were born over there but raised here.

Can't blame them, i wouldn't allow you citizenship either tbf

Dual passport is the most powerful passport in the world

That's why I'm going to take advantage of the Belfast Treaty and get myself a Republic of Ireland passport (while keeping my UK one for being born in Northern Ireland). Gives me full access to Europe (work, etc.) and I can even get my kids the passport as well. No reason not to from what I can tell (unless anyone knows anything different).

It's probably a long way into the future, but if/when your kids have kids, make sure they are added to the Irish foreign births register. They can then pass it down to their own kids.

My grandad was Irish and so I was entitled to Irish citizenship, but I didn't take it up until after my son was born, which makes him ineligible. If I had done it before he was born, then he'd be able to get it as well.

Oh, good to know. I'll be sure to do that, thanks for the heads-up!

So quick update re-divorce etc.

Submitted the Divorce application on the 20th and after a cool £600 now we have to wait until June 17th before we apply for a 'conditional order' and then wait another 6 weeks after that to get a official divorce. Don't see why it should take so long just to get it finalised but hey-ho.

Everything is a lot more amicable in the house at the moment, we've arranged how we're looking after little-man (2 days at each of ours and then alternating weekends) which is perfect and works for both of us. Essentially we're living as housemates now who share a kid, still trying to keep him happy by doing stuff on the weekends together with all of us.

The main thing now is getting the house on the market, we're currently going through everything and decluttering everywhere. Hopefully aiming to get the house on the market beginning of April and then I can start looking for a house of my own. I keep looking now (mainly to get a understanding of what I can afford but also because I love being nosy in people's houses), but until ours is valued and on the market I don't 100% know what I can and can't afford.

Much happier now esepcially as my ex has accepted the divorce and willing to move on as well. Hopefully by June I'll be moved and in my own house ready to start again.

That really does sound very positive. Hope things can stay that way until that official date.
