Try and focus on getting the stuff done. You're probsnly angry or will be at times. At yourself, your partner - the circumstances. Try and keep it civil and make it as clean a break as possible. You'll feel a lot better for it. Its OK to feel like gooseberry fool at times. It's a strawberry floated up awful thing. You'll have phases of being OK then the sense of loss will creep up on you from time to time.
Try not to wallow in it but do allow yourself to grieve.
Friends, family and outlets like this place. Use them.

Try and find your nearest park run - it’s been an amazing help for me. The people have been really supportive and it’s been a good way to make new social connections.

I am hopeless with this kind of stuff, and given this is the longest relationship I have been in I feel as if it is expected of me to get /do something to mark the occasion

Depends on what your partner likes, what kind of relationship you have, how they receive love/affection etc. A nice date like a posh meal is always a good anniversary option in my book!

I wouldn't do anything for anniversaries outside of marriage ones tbh.

Take them out for dinner and get them something nice.

You don't need to go overboard, but you should make some effort to acknowledge it.

What was your first date? Do the same thing again. Ours was the cinema and a meal, so we went from Jurassic World with Nandos to Independence Day 2 and Pizza Hut a year later. I will leave the assessment of our relationship's trajectory based on those facts up to the reader.

Ours was yesterday (9 years ) and we have a cute tradition of buying an ornament for the tree. We don't bother with presents though, dinner and a holiday to celebrate.

How long has the relationship been going now? Given that ID2 was out in summer of 2016 it implies there are 3 subsequent cinema and meal combos that you're holding out on telling us!

That said it's hard to say how you could drop further than ID2 and Pizza Hut. Captain Underpants and a Gregg's sausage roll perhaps?

We gave up after that knowing that ID2 could never be surpassed

Did go to McDonalds on valentines day a few years ago though
