News comes just as Michael Stipe starts posting pictures and videos of his cock and balls on the internet.
Coincidence?

I saw someone post a link to that on 4ch*n. I have to admit, I thought it was a joke.

I was thinking the very same thing. If you don't like them why bother posting grief?
Everybody trolls, sometimes.

They were never quite the same after Bill Berry left the band. Still an amazing group though with such an amazing back catalogue.

Loved them during their Out of Time and Automatic for the People period. Still sad to hear them split up though.

If he sounds like him as well, I think he might have a chance of a new job....

I like REM, but lets be honest they have done anything of any note since the 90's so can't say this is exactly upsetting news.

I much preferred their earlier stuff and hadn't paid much attention to them since Monster.
Looks like they won't be going back to Rocksville now.
My personal favourite REM song.

We can only hope that at some point U2 see this and have a brief second of insight, a mere moment of clarity and decide to split up too.
It isn't going to happen though. We are going to have to kill them

Last of their albums I listened to was Reveal which, I just looked it up, is from 2001.
They were a great band, well past their prime. I was surprised to hear they were still together.
Still, very few rock bands stick together for more than 30 years...

I have a confession to make;
I am one of those people who actually likes Shiny Happy People.

You have no idea how much I hate U2. Yes even the Joshua Tree was gooseberry fool! It doesn't help that Bono is a Grade A banana split

At the time when I was an edgy young man into drugs and esoteric 60s psychedelia I thought it was strawberry floating gooseberry fool and I thought that people who danced to it were strawberry floating gooseberry fool too (see also: people who sat down to
Sit Down by James).
Nowadays I'm not so sure.
