PostReplacement PS4 Controller Opinions Needed!
by Jenuall » Thu May 13, 2021 2:05 pm

After finally giving up on reclaiming my Dual Shock 4 controller from the stick drift nightmare that has blighted it for all of its short life I've decided I need to just replace the bloody thing.

But I'm not sure I can be arsed with spending the full amount Sony want for an official controller so I'm interested to know what people think about replacement options! Are 3rd party controllers still a bit gooseberry fool or are there actually good options out there now? Do I just need to stump up and buy the real deal?

I’ve got one of those wired Nacon pads for PS4 which is licensed by Sony, that’s pretty nice but some may find it a little small.

Interesting, but I don't think I could go back to wired pads now!

That’s a fair comment. I bought it partly as my pad kept dying on stream and partly to use with emulators on my laptop.

I'm not sure third party controllers are that much cheaper unless they are wired. Maybe if you get one without gyro you'd save some money?

I mean looking around the official controller seems to go for £50 and there are various 3rd party options at £30, so it's not an astronomical saving but at the same time I begrudge the fact that I'm having to buy a new controller at all so the thought of giving Sony another £50 is a bitter pill to consider swallowing

I have the Hori mini PS4 controller to use on PC. Only played Arkham Knight with it thus far but it's very good and only a shade over twenty quid (although yes, it is wired!)

I'm not sure there is a cheap wireless option really, all the options I looked at seemed extortionate.
