Americans must be amazed that we can somehow find a system where the price on items in shops is the price you actually pay and that most people pay taxes automatically and the idea of struggling to work out individual spending is unknown.
From everything I've seen the US tax system is bloody stupid and requires people to be tax experts or more likely hire someone who is.

I ended up talking to an American about tax when I was in New York really near their tax deadline day, and he was amazed when I told him about PAYE.

It just seems logical to me that the people who collect the tax are also the people who sort it all out.
The only reason I can see for us to switch from PAYE is if we became like many Americans and have this odd idea that all civil servants are corrupt or stupid or we decide we like punching ourselves in the balls on a yearly basis.
I suppose it helps that I don't see the government as a bunch of subhuman scum as many US conservatives seem to.

I think the system here in Canada is pretty similar to the US, but I don't really understand how the UK one works. You basically don't file your taxes they're just calculated for you? How do you deal with deductions? For example here, we can get a tax deduction for buying monthly metro passes, or if you're a student you get deductions for books.

We don't really have deductions in that way.* If it's something like letting disadvantaged people use the bus, they'll get a card to show that lets them have a discount or travel for free. If it's something like helping students, then we just don't tax them at all (student loans are non-taxable income).

* Unless you're self-employed and deducting business expenses, but then you have to file your taxes anyway.

I'll bet Trump will pull UN funding soon, and threaten NATO some more.

The US ambassador to the United Nations has warned she is "taking names" of UN members who oppose Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

In a letter to UN members, Nikki Haley said the US President took the issue personally and the names of those who supported a resolution rejecting the bill would be reported to him.

“As you consider your vote, I want you to know the president and the US take this vote personally," she said.

“The president will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those who voted against us," she added.

In a Twitter post, she said: "At the UN we're always asked to do more & give more.

"So, when we make a decision, at the will of the American ppl, abt where to locate OUR embassy, we don't expect those we've helped to target us.

"On Thurs there'll be a vote criticizing our choice. The US will be taking names."

The international community has broadly condemned Mr Trump's decision to move the embassy, with Turkey describing it as "a deliberate undermining of all peace efforts".

Earlier this week, the US was outnumbered 14 to 1 at a UN security council vote on a resolution calling on America to reverse its decision, but the nation used its veto to block the measure.

Ms Haley described the 14-1 vote as an "insult", warning: "It won't be forgotten".

It was rumoured that it took May 13 days to get Trump on the phone after they had a bit of a falling out.

Trade deal is well and truly gone as long as Trump is still there. But I'm convinced he's going to be impeached next year.

Trump must be feeling very sad and confused, he's been chumming up to the likes of Russia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia etc but they all didn't support him

Trump’s office really is the end of the US as a leading global superpower.

I’m also relieved to see that the UK managed to avoid sucking up.

Just seen the USA's response speech. Seems to be written by Trump himself.

The interview with him before this vote was hilarious. He's a total manbaby.

He'll be impeached by the House, assuming it flips, but even if the Senate also flips, removal from office and prosecution requires a 2/3 majority vote in that chamber, which ain't happening this side of 2020, if at all.
