I just don't see the logic in protesting about him banning people from his country, by banning him from ours! Bring him over and show him the protests. That would be beautiful ammunition against his re-election campaign!

Comically missing the point and making a false equivalancy.

Not many are talking about banning him from coming - but there is a difference between a formal state visit with bells, whistles and pageantry (which he's desperate for according to reports) and a standard visit.

There's no way we should be banning him from entering the UK. That would be madness.

Well protesters on college green in Bristol are chanting "keep him out" so you might want to try and clarify the position to them!

Have you? Because if you looked at countries that citizens of have killed US citizens/conducted terrorist attacks these are way way down the list.

We're not going to ban him, but I don't think giving him a fancy state visit aligns with how most people here think of him. Just should've had him come for a normal visit. Apparently Bush and Obama didn't have a fancy state visit until 2 years into their presidencies, and some presidents didn't get any at all.

President "grab 'em by the pussy" Trump doesn't deserve to be honoured in this way.

That's not the main thrust of the public argument - but ok.

One's keeping out refugees fleeing war and horror

Ones keeping out a racist racist hate mongering banana split out from giving a photo opportunity and validation he can spin to his supporters regardless of protests. I'm mean we all saw the spin and push (and belief) on inauguration crowds.

So you've still got that whole false equivalancy issue...

The list comes from the visa waver programme amendments drawn up by the Obama administration which listed those same countries as requiring extra security measures for travel. So the list doesn't have anything to do with Trump's businesses.

I agree, the list of countries is absolute horseshit and following the logic used to compile it they would be missing some big hitters to say the least.

Oh really? That list was just those 7 right?

And actually it's not security measures for travel - it's do to with visa programme and eligibility and/or need for reapplying.

And had...um...lots and lots to do with refugees right?

And explicitly targeted Ceryain religious groups?

And invoked 9/11 many times and then specifically ignored countries that were, for some reason, anything to do with it?

Obviously not, you brought it up, it's only polite to explain what you mean.

Is much to do with Trump's business? probably not.

Do we know the rationale behind it in a rationale and consistent fashion? Nope!

This is leaky the sort of thinking that ended up causing the famine in China that killed 70 Million people. :dread:

For every one grain of rice that was planted before, we will now plant two! Because that's how farming works, and I'm sure applying the same logic to laws is going to be great :|

African Union criticises US for ‘taking many of our people as slaves’ and not taking refugees
Trump has suspended all US refugee programmes and banned immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, three of which are AU members

The head of the African Union has criticised Donald Trump’s ban on immigration from some Muslim-majority countries, saying it presents “one of the greatest challenges” for the continent.

As representatives of the AU’s 53 member states met in Addis Ababa for a two-day summit, the chief of its commission said the bloc was entering “very turbulent times” after the US President’s election.

“The very country to which many of our people were taken as slaves during the transatlantic slave trade has now decided to ban refugees from some of our countries,” said Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

“What do we do about this? Indeed, this is one of the greatest challenges to our unity and solidarity.”

Antonio Guterres, attending his first AU summit as the UN chief, said: "African nations are among the world's largest and most generous hosts of refugees.

"African borders remain open for those in need of protection when so many borders are being closed, even in the most developed countries in the world."

Mr Guterres didn't make a direct reference to the recent executive orders signed by Mr Trump, which also included a commitment to build a wall along the Mexican border, but his comment drew enthusiastic applause from hundreds of African leaders, officials and dignitaries who attended the opening of the summit, the Associated Press reported.

Wow, I think the sheer incompetence of this administration is more terrifying than its blinkered ideology.

So far they have done nothing but weaken the position of America in the world by antagonising and threatening a trade war with a close neighbour who has taken no hostile action against them. The travel ban does nothing to enhance US security so I can only assume it's purpose is to appeal to racist, anti-Arab parts of Trumps base. Then you have the above fuckwittery that seems to designed to either cause legislative block or create dangerous black holes in nationwide regulatory structure.

An executive order from President Donald Trump opening up discrimination against the LGBTQ community on the basis of religious belief is expected sometime this week, possibly as soon as today.

Several sources spoke with LGBTQ Nation on the condition of anonymity who have told us that the order will allow for discrimination in a number of areas, including employment, social services, business, and adoption.

From what we’ve heard, the executive order could be far-reaching, and could include: making taxpayer funds available for discrimination against LGBTQ people in social services; allow federally funded adoption agencies to discriminate against LGBTQ parents; eliminate non-discrimination protections in order to make it possible to fire federal employers and contractors based on their sexual orientation or gender identity; and allow federal employees to refuse to serve people based on the belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and that gender is an immutable characteristic set at birth, which would impact a broad range of federal benefits.

The order is expected to come in the packaging of so-called “religious freedom,” which argues that someone’s religious beliefs should be enough to prevent them from having to provide goods and services to members of the LGBTQ community if doing so would conflict with said beliefs.
