Creative types I need your assistance, I have Okami HD on Nintendo Switch, the box art is in japanese. I have found a custom PAL cover art work here

https://m.imgur.com/oNYbh3T

Now, I want to have this printed on similar quality paper as a standard Switch game cover, also it needs to the right size (I notice the picture has markings for where to cut out the cover?)

I’ve tried to do something similar at Snappysnaps before and it didn’t turn out great. Is anyone here have the means of getting a quality print of this? If not can someone point me in the direct of a place online that could do this for me?

Given that there's a link to the guys Etsy store on the packaging, have you tried there?

I didn’t even see that :shifty:

EDIT: they have one that ships to you UK but altogether it costs almost £20! They have instant download ones but I still need to find a quality printer.

Do you mean just the insert? The way these are printed at the factory is offset print process which is very expensive and only works for runs in the tens of thousands, however I can probably get close using a film in my inkjet printer although it's quite reflective. It wouldn't cost £20 for one print

A laser print doesn't look quite right either as it produces a weird sheen and you basically get what CEX does with their shitty replacement inlays.

My Epson is brand new, it's more down to how you handle the digital process than the printer really, but it does matter. I have just bought an absolute gooseberry fool tonne of Epson papers including semi gloss and gloss papers.

I could do one on a range of papers and just choose your preference. I'm afraid the colours are never going to be exact because the factory prints are set up using a very specific colour calibration workflow and they may also use spot colours probably something called Pantone inks (Pantone matching system or PMS) which is not possible for one print (I can't do it anyway but I can print a CMYK that is close as I have the correct values for this). For example the Nintendo red is almost certainly a Pantone spot colour.

I do however have coated FOGRA certified proofing paper which while matte, should produce accurate colours if the colour profile is correct (it probably isn't).

If the artwork you want to print isn't 300-1200dpi I can't magic the detail into there but I can use an deep learning based resampling algorithm to make it look sharp without pixelation. Just find the highest resolution file you can and I'll print it off for you for whatever you are happy to pay plus 60p or whatever for a hard backed card envelope.

The markings you refer to are crop markings. It's literally my job for 5 years to slice material so that is no problem at all. I do it by hand using a scalpel and straight edge. If I wasn't good at that I'd have given up a very long time ago. If it was a larger run I'd do it by machine but there's no point for just a square.

I suggest you buy the instant download copy and I will manage the print and cut as accurately as possible.

It would be much better to print a PDF but it looks like that guy's ETsy shop isn't listing it anymore and someone (although it's a bit of a dick move, it's copyright infringement selling it anyway) has uploaded a pretty high resolution copy to Imgur so that might work if you are willing not to have a maximum resolution copy. You might not be able to tell the difference. Hard to know without printing it and ink costs money.

You can PM me but it would be better to email my business which is hello at BJUM dot uk because that's where all my jobs live and I get so many PMs about other stuff on here. I have to separate work time from GRcade time.

I am slacking off at the minute because I just finished writing some other emails but then going to go and cut a whale out of acrylic plastic because I literally print/cut/make stuff all the time.

I've had similar requests in the past, if the artwork is there it's pretty straightforward. Obviously I charge a lot to make brand new layouts from scratch. I could conceivably have the same business but it isn't very creative so not been attracted to it.

Which reminds me in terms of gaming I need to get around to making my amibo, gba cart and n64 cart stands :shifty: even if they are just for me as initial prototypes. Those damn carts fall over all the time :dread:

I could then put GRcade etched logos on them

If you are wondering why I haven't done that already... Welcome to my world of 100 ideas and only ever time to make 1. Life's a bitch owning a creative studio because you can do anything you want but what you want and what you need to do aren't the same thing

They are in my brain but would only take about 2hours to draft and could probably machine a test in a similar space of time as well. I have plenty of wood just sitting around.

I'm not sentimental about such test pieces, moulds etc so if anyone wants one give me a shout as I'll be doing one at some point. If someone has a specific request like they need a certain number of slots and dimensions that's useful for me because without limitations it's hard to get started as I'm just making it up.

Yes I have the Gamecube one.

DVD style cases aren't really a problem but the carts are. Anyone with sense is storing the boxes and the carts separately.

I'm intrigued by these, Gecko. I had kinda thought they'd be plastic but wooden versions sound neat, too. I know that some folk produce stands for various handheld consoles and they are pretty attractive. I guess this could be a cool new avenue to explore!

I can do plastics too. Material is about the same or cheaper, but a lot less finishing work. Finishing wood takes ages and introduces a craft element, which appeals to me and some customers, plus it's much more environmentally friendly.

When working with plastics, there is always some (often quite considerable) amount of unrecyclable waste, although I'm looking into that too.
