Indeed. As much as I love 4, 2 has always been and still is my favourite in the series.

Why do people still insist on RE2 being the best?

Because it is by leaps and bounds.

It was the game that got me into consoles.

I dont know much about this game, but what i have seen, all it is is another Gears of war shooter game, with good graphics!

Maybe i have to play the other resident evils...?

So what i want to know is why is this game going to be so good?

Play RE4, complete it and then you will cum wildly every time you get a new snippet of info about RE5.

Same here. RE2 is the best in the series, then REmake. RE4 is a RE game in name only, tho it is a great game.

I'm not having a go or anything, but would the RE2 lovers care to say exactly why it's better than the first or REmake.

From my eyes it doesn't have the atmosphere of the first one, the setting isn't as good (the way everything comes together in the mansion is satisfying), the puzzles are lame, the bosses suck and the game is stupidly short.

John Galt, welcome to GR, I have been saying this for a fair while, now RE2 doesn have atmosphere in spades (the HQ) but it seems so detatched from the first game it was silly...why did it not carry on with STARS and why the need to introduce gay boy Kennedy.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

BLH, best opening?

Haunted Mansion

Best enemy

Hunter (lickers? pfft)

Best charatcer in RE2...erm....

RE? Wesker, Burton.

I like RE2 but where all this almighty praise comes from baffles me sometimes, survival horror in a claustrophobic mansion or a police station?

Personally, RE1 and RE4 are my faves but I never finished 4 but got to the last boss!

RE5 is incorporating a cover system similar to GoW as far as I know. Eurogamer had it in its news a few months ago!

Because he's a mummy strawberry floating badass.

I don't know why 1cmanny1 thinks RE5 will be short when RE4 could take ages to get through. Go and play it.

If you've still got 4, you should go back and finish it - the last boss isn't actually that difficult. Only requires a bit of movement between the platforms and some well placed magnum shots before the big finish.

I never completed 4 when I had it on the Wii, I really should rebuy the game shouldn't I?

I just got stuck on one bit and have never completed any Resident Evil game before, they make for uncomfortable gaming and I am happy to plough into any mario game instead of this!

The police station & the mansion are almost identical glowy, at least on the inside. The police station WAS a former church, or something like that, it tells you in the game. RE2 took everything good about 1 and ramped it up to 11, its one of the rare occasions where a sequel betters its predecessor in almost every way possible

This, Resi 2 was my favourite, i wish they would REmake it!

Yes a REmake would be brill.

BLH, how are they identical, you mean in layout? I suppose, but I now class REmake as the deifinate Resi with the extra bits, nobody can deny that the Crimson heads are a superb addition and the sense of claustraphobia has not been matched since the game appeared in 1996.

Its the only game that has actually scared me and made me put the pad down and calm down for a few minutes.

The police station & church are, well, ALMOST identical in layout

I think I read this someplace. Might have been an Edge Time Extend. Same layout, but it's flipped. You first encounter the Licker in the "same" corridor as you encounter the dogs in RE1, but you're on the opposite side of the building, in a sequence which is very similar.

Edge wrote:It’s no coincidence that one of RE2’s first great moments, the entrance of the licker, happens in a long windowed corridor that turns at 90 degrees, a mirror image of the mansion’s corridor where dogs burst through glass to attack you. The designers trust you to notice these quiet nods, even while building a new sense of foreboding around them: before meeting the licker you’ve seen something quickly pass across the window of the previous room, and on entering the corridor the glass is already broken through, a headless corpse lying on the floor.

RE4 is the only RE I've ever actually finished, which rather makes it my favorite by default, but it's hard not to appreciate the craftsmanship in the older games, even if I've never seen ALL of them.

RE4 isnt even Resident Evil, it has no similarities to the other games apart from Leon and some items. You owe it to yourself to play these through, starting with Zero then you can become as addicted to them as I am.

I even have the umbrella archives in the bathroom for when I go for a dump so I can read about it.

Yes it is. It brought something new and fresh to the series. Get your head out of the strawberry floating sand.

I'm with BLH. I think Capcom should have branched the series or even turned what was to be RE4 in to a new IP. I'll miss that there'll never be a proper Resi game again: one with a fixed camera, item boxes and duff controls.

Go and play Silent Hill 4 for your fix of 2 of those.

It's a possibility I suppose but the SH games have never appeared on consoles I've owned. The things I realised I miss most about the old Resi are the puzzles. The way one of the first items you get turns out to be something you need right at the end or the way certain items need to be used in multiple places is just so satisfying when you get it right. Granted, most of the puzzles were fairly easy but they still added a bit of intelligence that was rarely required in RE4.
