Is it the best first person horror game ever made? Quite possibly.
Is it the best VR game ever made (before Valve made HL: Alyx)? Yes.
Is it the best RE game I’ve ever played? Yes.
Probably.

Maybe.

I need to talk about this.

Just finished this via VR. It was an amazing experience probably the best VR full game I’ve played. And my first RE since RE (PSX).

I don’t think anything mounts up to the fear I had at the start in the house, I may do the DLC unsure yet.

Whilst I found Alien Isolation more constantly scary as a game, this in VR delivered some amazing jumps & feelings of terror. Very good game.

I think it's one of the best Resident Evil games ever made and I haven't even played it in VR.

I agree with you as well, it's definitely at its strongest in the house but it only slightly drops from a very high high, for the rest of the game.

I've only played the free Chris Redfield DLC which basically carries directly on from the end of the main game, it was nice to get a full satisfying conclusion to the story so I would recommend at least playing that.

Cool I'll give that a whirl. :)

I can’t get past the early part when you try to escape after the dinner with the family. Dad just hunts me down and beats me to death

The Chris DLC, entitled Not a Hero (and is free) was a pleasant surprise considering it wasn’t Capcom that made it. Great little bookend to the game.
KingK, my advice? In that bit, he knocks a wall out when he chases you, making it a little easier to dodge around him. No shame in looking at a guide, either, as you need an item to unlock a door to the main hall - get the guide to tell you where it as and bloody leg it

At the start you need an item to unlock the crawl space in another room, and Jack appears as you go down the corridor to pick it up. I usually just sprint down to it, pick it up, then run away back down the corridor so he doesn’t have time to hit me properly. Even works a treat on madhouse difficulty.

I'm so gooseberry fool at games. Been enjoying this but even on Easy I struggle at times- beating the boiler room this morning was a strawberry floating nightmare, kept dying!

I feel your pain, by far the hardest bit. Had to get my mate Cumberdanes to do it for me.

Danes told me about that when I was streaming my Madhouse difficulty run. To be fair, the last hour or so was absolutely brutal.

Oh gooseberry fool really, I meant that room the first time round early in the game

Think I've cleared about 4 hours of this today, will be having nightmares tonight

No it's the bit you're on he's talking about Buff got stuck on. The last hour or so is fine on easy and normal but on madhouse it's disgusting.

Finished. Thought that was great, awesome atmosphere. The whole ship section could strawberry float off - I kept getting lost and was just generally losing interest - but otherwise really enjoyed it.

Yeah the ship felt odd to me, like the game felt naturally close to ending before that dragged it out

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I've just started playing this again. I bought it on release but quit pretty near the start as I found it too jumpy, but since we are in prolonged lockdown I thought I'd toughen up and give it a proper go.

Have to say, I really like it. It's such a good soft reboot and manages to keep everything that was classic about the original style games.

Not sure if I'll make it to the end, but I'm going to give it a bloody good go.

I just finished another replay this week. It's a great game almost spoiled by the painfully restrictive movement. Almost feels like you're playing with an N64 pad and with lead in your boots.

It's really well primed for a sequel to come and improve on every aspect and become an absolute banger.

reading some comments the past few pages, having only started and finished the game last week - which was great.

On the subject of the
ship section - I found that much more like old school Resi (ie 1, 2 and 3) than at any moment in the game. Proper had me thinking about where I needed to go, studying the map, going back on myself etc.
It was the only challenging point in the game, outside of the combat.

I will concur with what others have said...easily the most terrifying of the games. Much of that is down to the first person of course, but the feel of the house especially was horrific and screwed up.

I've also played the demo of Village and cannot wait for that to arrive in May. I'm definitely riding high on Resident Evil like it's the early noughties again when 4 came out.

I think I'll be replaying this very soon as well. I've already finished the main story 4 times.

Finished this last week.

It definitely got less scary once you arrives at the ship. How the strawberry float does anyone in the region never noticed a huge ass ship explosion and it took years for it to be discovered? Surely the higher ups would have searched for it since then?and it’s just a short distance from the Bakers’ house and any helicopter flying over would have noticed it and reported it?

Also I picked up a memo and realised who the creepy wheelchair bound old woman is. A good twist.

A solid, if cumbersome game. Far better than 4/5/6.
