The trophies for this are bullshit, looks like you'd have to complete the games 4/5 times to mop them all up

Just got to the wrecked ship save room. Man, strawberry float this place. :slol: I'm really enjoying it although I guess I'm coming to the end.

strawberry float the boss fights, though. They bring the game down so much. I did actually enjoy the giant monster one, however, mainly because it was a classic Resi-type fight with giant balls to shoot and explode so you know you're doing damage. The big problem with the majority of them is that you have no idea if what you're doing is right or not or whether you're just wasting your strawberry floating time (and bullets).

And done...

My review (no plot spoilers):

After spending a thrilling weekend hammering through this game in VR (I'm a little dazed now) I'll think I would give this a very solid [8] from me.

+Incredibly creepy atmosphere, particularly in the opening few acts of the game.
+Amazing sense of place - I really felt like I was there
+Love all the subtle nods to previous Resident Evil games while feeling like a new game entirely
+Literally felt like a less-campy / schlocky remake of Resi 1 set in Louisiana
+Great voice acting
+VR implementation is pretty good (although I did turn off the stepped turning which I thought was weird) - no nausea at all (well none because of the VR!)

- Only minor ones - turning and movement are slow (but I'm, sure this was deliberate to ramp-up the tension)
- Tension takes a dip at points
- Image quality in VR is not on a par with the standard version - which is understandable, but I can't help but feel a little envious of the Vive and Rift owners who are likely to get to play a superior version of this in a year's time

Just got the arm from the kid's bedroom and that's me done for the night. I was watching the screen through the gaps in my fingers for part of that. After that I was running on pure adrenaline getting back to the trailer.

Just finished this. That ending!

Am I taking it the wrong way or did the ending imply that the events of this game take place before the original Resident Evil? That looked like a very young Chris Redfield and why would he be in an Umbrella helicopter? Maybe I'm completely off the mark but that's how I immediately took it. It would explain the old tech like crt's and VCR's too.

Well there goes that theory.

Come to think of it, yeah, I definitely saw a newspaper clipping about Racoon City survivors still suffering or something like that.

RE7 takes place 4 years after RE6. Game has loads of nods to Arklay Mountains and the Racoon City incident.

Its alsoBlue Umbrella, which might imply theyre the good guys.

Completed on normal in 9 hours 20 minutes. I liked it a lot and I think this should be the future direction of the Resident Evil games. A sequel which smoothed out the rough edges would be very special.

Gameplay

- I liked the first person POV but the movement was far too clunky and Ethan's running speed was painful. This led to some really frustrating boss fights where the inability to strafe meant I was fighting the controls more than the boss.
-The one boss which actually worked and was fun to fight was Jack in the Boathouse as the bigger arena lessened the impact of the slow movement speed and tank controls. Plus the obvious weakpoints gave clear indication when you caused damage unlike the previous bullet sponge encounters. Margueritewas the worst in that respect.
-The second chapter main house segment was the best in the entire game and I was disappointed it ended so quickly. Going round a house, collecting keys and solving puzzles- that's Resident Evil.

PLOT SPOILERS
- The videotapes were a fun expository device and I'd like to see something similar in the next game. I loved the Happy Birthday escape room.
- The photo in the basement room you revisit at the end identifying Evelyn was a great touch and nice subtle storytelling.
- I haven't completed Resident Evil 6 or the Revelations games but is this the first time Umbrella has reappeared?
-Lucas escaped right? I don't remember finding his corpse anywhere.

I completely missed all of this stuff. When is it shown that he's an agent?

It's in the laptop in the room where you make the Nerutoxin - someone was previously cured by the an organisation and has been reporting on the family/eveline, and cleaning up people who came in. Given the traps nearby popular theory is it's lucas

You have my respect. I watched someone else doing that on YT earlier. Almost as much fun as watching the old Alien Isolation speed runs. Utter madness. Amazing, but madness.

Second run through with the other ending, regarding lucas..

Do you think he was infected then Umbrella got to him? As he gets his arm cut off by Jack quite early on, if he wasn't one of them at the time that would strawberry floating hurt, the second ending was piss poor, almost no difference apart from Mia was in the helicopter  Not sure Ive got the stomach for madhouse difficulty, by the sounds of it, its stupidly hard. Even with the Albert gun.

All said and done this game is strawberry floating brilliant, could have been a bit more expansive, and maybe make the boss fights less gooseberry fool. But its still a wonderful return to form.

Resi
