RE1 and 2 I adored on PS1. 3 was short and ok. A big step down from 2 though as it kind of felt like half a game.

Veronica - had this on the Dreamcast Day 1 and definitely one of my favourites. Desperate for them to remake this one.

RE4 - first day purchase on the GC. Brilliant. The over the shoulder and combat was a breath of fresh air for the series. Even the QuickTime moments were great, although they got copied to death by other games after that - talk about law of diminishing returns for a feature.

RE5 - played on 360. Never completed it but whilst enjoyable I can remember thinking it didn’t quite feel like RE. Tons of daytime stuff in it I recall, which never helps the sense of dread.

RE6 - never played it. Intend to.

RE7 - bizarrely I only got round to playing it this week. Finished it this afternoon and thought it was sensational. Easily the most disturbing since the original, if not more disturbing. Gross game, in all the best ways, and I loved the first person view personally. But yeah, this gave me all those horrible goosebump feels for the first time in ages.

Haven’t played the remakes of 2 and 3 - but will go straight into 2 this week. Heard ecstatic things.

If VIIlage is as good as VII then I can’t wait - whilst dreading it at the same time. Lol. Better grab the demo and see what I think.....

I've played from 0 to 6 (including Code Veronica). Absolutely love REmake. Had some good times on 5's co-op modes. Thought 6 was a bit of a travesty and have been out of the loop since then.

Just finished REmake 1 for the first time in about 15 years.

What a cracking game. But my god I’d forgotten how annoying the backtracking is with Chris. 6 inventory slots for the entire game is pure bullshit. I’d also forgotten how puzzle heavy this is, it’s a bit overboard in places but I think there’s a sweet spot between this and the 2/3 remakes. The amount of gooseberry fool it gives you is nuts as well. I ended the game with about 100 hand gun ammo, 30 Mag ammo and 50 shotgun ammo, plus something like a dozen full heal herbs.

What’s really cheesed me off now is the fact that the RE 4-6 triple pack that has been on PSN for 15 quid for the past couple of months is now back up to 40 quid and will presumably sit like that until Village. Rather annoying as I really wanted to play through 4 and 5 before that.

That triple pack goes on offer *all the time* Herbi, just hold off until it goes back down a bit.

Yea that’s what I’ll be doing, just annoying as I was keen to move straight on and I’d seen it at 15quid earlier this week.

Tempted to go through Zero for the first time but that seems a bit pricey at 15 too.

No interest in playing them via Switch? They are usually on offer on the eShop.

Got a gaming PC?

Having seen all the incredible talk of RE7, and having fond memories of RE4, I tried RE7. I just didn’t enjoy it.

It looks good, it seems interesting, I just came to the conclusion it was just a bit much it terms of the gore, and blood. It was just a bit much.. maybe getting old.

Deleted.

I’m finding similar with the medium. I think maybe the genre just isn’t for me. I’m just a littler bored of shooters.

Never played it on the Wii but apparently that's the best version for controls.

Maf hates that you can't move and aim but I've never had an issue with them.

Back in early 2005, third person shooters on a dual stick control pad weren't as ubiquitous as they were to become just a few years later, so they probably didn't feel quite as jarring.

I always liked them though, as they added vulnerability and made it more of a sacrifice to shoot. I played RE4 a little two or three years ago and the muscle memory must have remained as I still thought the controls were fine. You just can't play it like modern games.

The game was so entirely designed around the "vulnerability" of the stationary, and somewhat slow, aiming that even the Wii version felt like it largely broke the atmosphere and intent.

Felt fantastic to be so accurate with the Wii Remote though.

Anyone else find the Switch version to control horribly? I just didn't think the Joycon sticks were accurate enough. I usually ace the target shooting mini-game on other platforms but it was an absolute ball ache on Switch. Not sure if it was the sticks themselves or the different way your hand grips the Switch compared to a normal controller but something was way off.

Just finished 4 for the first time in over a decade.

I don’t think it’s dated well. I think it’s just a personal preference thing as even at the time I didn’t think it was the sensation it was hailed as, at least in terms of how fun I found it to play. Despite the tank controls feeling jank as strawberry float at the start, it still is very solid mechanically but just the aesthetics, setting and the story of the game don’t really chime with me.

All the chat here got me excited for RE again. I really didnt enjoy RE7, so i've bought RE2 given all the positive discussion.

I love a mod though, so its all good to get stuck in..... Judy

I’ve been playing 2 a lot recently and got a new personal best 1:24 on Leon A. No glitches exploits or uncapped framerate. Just going really bloody fast.

Switching it down to Standard mode and I just smashed my record with a 1:13

It’s actually remarkably easy as the strategy is to just blitz past everything that isn’t absolutely necessary and knife the bosses. Kind of feel a bit underwhelmed having played it like that tbh. Previously when I was trying to speed run it I was playing with the games systems, dodging non-essential side paths, making it through fights with the bare minimum. When you break it down like I just have it becomes less of a game and more a case of how fast can you do the exploits. There’s still no glitches but it doesn’t feel right to me.

I've decided to go back to the older Resident Evil's to tide me over until 8 comes down in price, and there's so many modes in REmake that I never knew about when I had it on the Gamecube :slol: I've finished it enough now to have unlocked Real Survivor and Invisible Enemy, so I thought I'd attempt a hard/no saves runthrough... Unfortunately I've also now finished it enough to have unlocked the One Dangerous Zombie :dread: Spent about an hour playing this morning to have him appear from around a corner and I panic-shot him before realising it was him :fp: Frustrating  Does he appear on *every* difficulty now, too? Read something that said that if he appeared in a room then there wouldn't be anything else in there but at least two rooms I encountered him in also had normal crimson heads roaming around...

Yes but I’ve found he only appears in specific rooms(those being the room where you get the page of the musical score and the upper corridor of the east wing) and you can plan for the bastard.

Made it to the Residence, so I think I'm past him now (I hope  ). Having him replace the zombie where you have to get the one sheet of the musical score is cheeky!
