I loved these games series, easily one of my top rated series. I've only played the core games (and Gaiden once) and none of the spin-offs. Thoughts
PS1
Resident Evil - I loved this game despite (because?) of the cheesy dialogue, a great intro to the series
Resident Evil 2 - Improved on the first one in every way, perhaps my favourite in the whole franchise
Resident Evil 3 - Ugh, didn't really get on with this and, to me, it didn't feel like a real sequel, more of an add-on to Resi 2. One of my least favourite games
Dreamcast
Code Veronica - I loved this at the time, it felt like this should have been Res 3. A great Resi game and one of the top Dreamcast games
Gamecube
Resident Evil 0 - I know it gets a lot of flack but I thought it was OK, not the best but not the worst
REmake - It was great to go back to this game with improved visuals and scripting. It doesn't quite hold the same memories of the original but that's no fault of the game, more to do with how fondly I remember playing Resi 1
Resident Evil 4 - I loved the story and the gameplay and it felt like a nice refresh to the series
Xbox 360
Resident Evil 5 - As a horror game it falls a bit flat. I did enjoy the two-player co-op though and that made it more fun for me
Resident Evil 6 - Same as above really. Not really a horror game but still enjoyed the co-op mode
PS4
Resident Evil 7 - This is where I have to jump ship from the series. I like that it goes back to its horror roots, I like the story. I hate the first-person perspective, it really takes me out of the game and spoils the immersion. It was slightly more bearable in VR, in a gimicky way but not enough for me to play it through.
With the series seemingly carrying on with the first-person perspective I can't see me getting back into the series any time soon
I haven't played RE2 or 3 remake but that's more to do with me not really gaming much at the moment. I'd like to try 2 but not fussed about 3
