Gonna go with the stick. :dread: I'm out of defence items.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

I don't think the 'mashing the buttons' trick works as I tried that with Jill and it took ages for the dogs to let go of her arms. :x

My speed run and no save trophies attained in one playthrough this morning :D

I've now completed Jill, Chris and now a speedrun within the past 24 hours, and 70% trophies completed.

How I've missed you classic Resi

Oddly close to Anung's time as well!

Not enjoying this, wish I'd never bought it. Camera is still ridiculous, particularly when the zombie can't be seen, aiming is crap, opening door sequence is unnecessary (we don't have to load from disc), puzzles are stupid (try to use an item but can't, examine it and then it can be used). Rather than an HD update they should have given it a year 2000 playability update.

My next goal is doing Chris again, on Hard, while saving no one. This should net the hard, all costumes and save no one using Chris trophies- then onto real survivor and invisible enemies!

No.

Just because it's not being given to you on a plate doesn't make it bad. Aiming isn't crap. You can move your character. And the camera angles are great,

Zombies not being seen is kind of the point in some cases. At one point, the camera was angled so that I couldn't see down a corridor. I felt that there was a zombie down there so I edged forwards carefully. Low and behold, a zombie popped out and I ran like the wind.

I can see the doors getting annoying on subsequent playthroughs, when you know what to expect, but, as it's my first playthrough, I feel that it's a good way of building tension. Of course, if playtesting showed that the game loaded consistently, regardless of what is on the other side of a door, the option to remove those animations should be there from the start.

I've been caught out by the puzzles twice already. The first time was me not knowing that items should be thoroughly examined and the second was due to me failing to remember what I had already learned. I don't hold that against the game, I'm just disappointed in myself.

Out of interest, did you ever play Demon's Souls or the Dark Souls games? They are also unorthodox, like this game is, but that only adds to their appeal, to me at least.

My only criticism of this game, so far, is the lack of an autosave, even one that puts you back to a typewriter if your character dies. The game isn't geared around combat so I can understand why I'm not able to pull off a headshot at will.

Anyone complaining about door opening in this should make their way through Code Veronica. Loading for doors, loading for stairs and stupid bits where those sequences would go very slowly with a heart thumping away as soundtrack. Combine that with the size of Rockfort Island and the amount of backtracking you had to do and you had something only a masochist would go through.

If someone brought out a new game today with these mechanics it would be slated. This is like buying an updated version of an 80s car where the body has been redesigned, but it handles poorly.

It came out in 2002

I can see how someone new to the game might hate it, but it's a classic and I wouldn't change anything about it

GC version maybe, not the original. I had it on the GC but forgot how much I hated it. I'll have to get a tattoo to remind myself before the next re-re-re-release.

Do it without saving!

I'm really jealous of people who get to play this without knowing what they are doing. I miss that fresh feeling of what the strawberry float do I need to do? These games are pretty much just muscle memory for me now.

I'm like that with Resident Evil 2 and I hate it. It's like I play Resi 2 and just zone out. Then the credits roll and I wonder how I got there.

It's been a number of years since I've played this game, and apparently my left analogue stick isn't working properly. Just had a disastrous run through of the first half of the game on hard mode with Jill, had to call it a night and will go again when I have time. Looking at about 4 hours to finish.

How can you hate this game DH? You've no soul man, I'm playing old school controls and I'm loving it.

Couldn't get the serum for bitten lad tho so had to do that part again, love working out the puzzles all over again and the complete lack of hand holding.

That says rather more about the state of video games audience than the games themselves.

If a game isn't telling you exactly what buttons to push and when, people aren't happy.

Or better yet, actually playing the game for you, New Super Mario Bros style.

The games not for everyone definately, flaws to some are absolute lost treasures to others. I however, and firmly in the latter. The times being posted are showing that the game isn't broken, or that the core mechanics are somehow "wrong".

Unlike 99% of modern games, the game does not hand hold you throughout. It doesn't tell you to press X to not die, and it pulls no punches with its insta kills. If you aren't paying attention, you will die- the purest form of gaming for me, and the reason why speedruns are part of the experience- it's not only physical reactions, but tests of memory, and mental fortitude to keep the focus for that period of time- all while maintaining a limited inventory.

I wouldn't have it any other way- and hope the success of this reminds Capcom what Resi is, and encourage others that this old school type of survival horror isn't dead.

For the detractors- did you not know what this was when you bought it? It's been highly publicised as to what it was, isn't it more your fault for buying something you already admitted you didn't like originally?

I agree, it is my fault. I didn't enjoy it on the GC, but that was a long time ago so couldn't rememeber everything I didn't like about it. Within a couple of minutes of playing this I could remember though.

The thing is though, I'm not really enjoying the game and people adding their explanations and excuses for it doesn't change my level of enjoyment. I will no doubt play through it though, mainly because thanks to the wonders of electronic purchases I either complete it to get some value out of it or just write off £15.

I am hoping they can go back to basics for RE. Similar to the DLC lost nightmare for RE5. You can still create tension and excitement without mass shootouts, huge amounts of ammo, motorcycle zombies, waves of enemies etc.

Keep it simple, tense atmosphere is far more effective than the "action" direction the sequels took.

Bring back zombies, dark mysterious location (small scale not globe trotting adventure) limited ammo and a reccuring threat that isn't easy to defeat (like nemesis) forcing players to retreat or run!

And proper puzzles, not pick up item A walk 2 feet then Use item A :fp: (I realise very last action in REmake is exactly this  )
