Camera is still ridiculous, particularly when the zombie can't be seen, aiming is crap, opening door sequence is unnecessary (we don't have to load from disc), puzzles are stupid (try to use an item but can't, examine it and then it can be used). Rather than an HD update they should have given it a year 2000 playability update.
Zombies not being seen is kind of the point in some cases. At one point, the camera was angled so that I couldn't see down a corridor. I felt that there was a zombie down there so I edged forwards carefully. Low and behold, a zombie popped out and I ran like the wind.
I can see the doors getting annoying on subsequent playthroughs, when you know what to expect, but, as it's my first playthrough, I feel that it's a good way of building tension. Of course, if playtesting showed that the game loaded consistently, regardless of what is on the other side of a door, the option to remove those animations should be there from the start.
I've been caught out by the puzzles twice already. The first time was me not knowing that items should be thoroughly examined and the second was due to me failing to remember what I had already learned. I don't hold that against the game, I'm just disappointed in myself.
Out of interest, did you ever play Demon's Souls or the Dark Souls games? They are also unorthodox, like this game is, but that only adds to their appeal, to me at least.
My only criticism of this game, so far, is the lack of an autosave, even one that puts you back to a typewriter if your character dies. The game isn't geared around combat so I can understand why I'm not able to pull off a headshot at will.
