Most important part of the game - where do we all rank the save room music? Gave it a good listen earlier and it comfortably sits below 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 while still being close enough to their high standards. I don't even remember what 5 and 6 had.

I can't even remember there being any save room music so it's certainly not memorable.

Is there save room music in 7? I don't think I've noticed it so far.

The only save music that really sticks in my head is the original, that was spot on :D

There is in both but it's much more subtle than usual. The 7 save music is actually really, really good when you finally clock it in game and get into a safe area. Like a warm blanket of a tune.

1 and 2 are still the utter gold standard though.

Maybe the 6 out of 10 was a mistake like GTA3

When I think of save room music, I always hear the tune from the original RE2. And then I can't hear anything else. It's perfect.

I'd say that overall it's less scary than RE7 as it's more action focused. However, there is one section of the game that is particularly creepy which I think at least matches 7 in terms of horror. It is only a short part of the overalls game though.

Thanks guys, hmm, I think about it. I saw a section in a wooded area, where it's really dark and you're just stumbling about with a torch, is that it?

That's right at the beginning of the game and it only lasts a couple of minutes. The section I'm talking about is much worse

Playing on the PS5 I didn’t realise that the lifts were hiding loading. But my god on the PS4 do they take the piss. Might as well be descending to the centre of the earth for how long it takes.

The only proper horror bit is like an hour long, the rest of the game is all on the level of Resi 4 so more horror themed action-adventure than actual horror. It's also very Resident Evil and therefore very dumb, so I probably found more moments funny than I did frightening.

As sawyerpip says that stumbling through the woods with a torch is right at the start of the game and last about two minutes. I didn't like that bit because it's very artificially trying to build atmosphere - the torch is always pointing to the bottom of the screen instead of the centre of where you are aiming the camera. It's very immersion breaking when there is no reasonable in-universe explanation for Ethan being incapable of pointing a torch upwards, but luckily that's never again a thing in the game proper.

He's just regained consciousness after having been in a car crash to be fair, he might not be operating at 100% capacity.

It's not a big complaint to be honest as it's such a short section right at the start, it just came across a bit cheap and that ruined the atmosphere for me! The game is capable of much smarter design. One of my favourite moments I think already got mentioned earlier in the thread - the "look out the window" jump scare. It is so obviously set up that you are absolutely expecting a scare, but they delay it just long enough that it still gets you as you get distracted by the numbers. It's very well done playing with expectations like that.

I should also clarify the funny moments are by no means a bad thing. Chris "boulder punching asshole" had me laughing out loud.

I've been ignoring because I really didn't like Resi 7 that much but this has me interested

What is the "look out the window" bit? I played the story 6 times and don't remember which bit you're referring to?

You need a code to open a combination lock in a house in the village. A nearby note says to "look out the window" which gives you the right perspective to read the six digit code from the environment. There is a jump scare from an enemy attacking through the window, which is very obvious to expect from the instruction, but it is delayed just long enough for you to get distracted by reading the code anyway.

Oh of course! I certainly missed any jump scare though, probably why I didn't remember it. Lucky me!

Starting a playthrough myself:

- Getting captured by the lycans when they all attack and you have to survive for some amount of time, I was safe in the middle of a house that I had barricaded, a lycan just spawns in out of nowhere, picks me up, throws me, and somehow I am now outside on the floor
- I placed a mine by the door where Heisenberg appears to first capture you. It actually detonated when he appeared but he didn't react at all :x
