A great range of stuff there, Gem - nice work! Have you played the Dead Space titles before? I've dabbled with the first and enjoyed the styling and atmosphere... you've made me think about returning to it during next year!

Cheers.

I've only ever played the first Dead Space. I did read the series gets more gun-ho as it progresses, but for £1.50 each I'm not complaining.

As for the GTA titles, that wasn't planned. I was thinking about San Andreas the other day and why I didn't get on with it at the time even though I thoroughly enjoyed III and Vice City. Was in CEX and decided to grab all three.

I grabbed Red Ninja: End of Honor for the original Xbox with its case but missing its Manual for 50pence today.

I also grabbed Mission Impossible for N64 complete for £2... I already have a boxed copy of this and probably a loose cart as well but for £2 why the heck not I thought, its not in great condition box wise but it could be a lot worse.

Been playing Streets of Rage from the Switch version of the Megadrive classic collection tonight. Happy New Year to me! But, also to the possibily overly patient other half, who actually whooped most of the enemies on my behalf and then cacklingly threw me all over the place, whilst pretending it was an accident.

NB, that Megadrive collection is such an excellent stack of games for whatever console, but I do think it fits the Switch so well - playing Columns or Sonic on the train, or just simple 2-player co-op on a few of them.

Anyway, on Streets of Rage ... so, she'd never played it before, and loved it. I also remember, many years before, playing Double Dragon with my brother for hours, and beating those terrible gangsters into next week.

But where do you get that co-op fun now? It's totally died off. And yet I think it's one of the best ways to get people into playing games in the first place!

I have Streets of Rage 1 CIB in really good condition so I play through it from time to time, still haven't beaten it though. It's frustratingly easy to accidentally spam the special move button and waste that but also most the bosses are really cheesy, the worst probably being the firebreathing ones.

To be totally honest, for me it was probably mainly a nostalgia rush for a style of gaming you rarely get any more, and for her mainly a good way to batter someone with a pipe.

But I loved the simplicity and it's been a while since I've enjoyed a game as much; though I think single player wouldn't have had quite the same thrill, since it's partly about you and A.N. Other taking on impossible odds.

But yes, those fire breathing gits are a nightmare - I still don't know how to avoid them without taking damage - so they should probably take a long hard look at themselves.

A few sites have qualified Folkore as one of those underrated titles. I was aware of the game, but have never played it. You don't tend to see it outside of online retailers, so seeing a copy in CEX I decided to buy. Hopefully I can give it a whirl sometime over the weekend.

reading up on it it kind of appeals to me because apparently the game was originally going to be called Monster Kingdom Unknown Realms, and was going to be connected to the PSP title Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner, apart from Jewel Summoner didnt sell very well never even got a European release, I own Jewel Summoner and really liked it so that kinda makes me think I should keep an eye open for this. Weird isent it when names get changed and you dont realise that something is or at least at one point was going to be a part of something else.

I know very little about Monster Kingdom, but now you've brought Folklore's original concept to my attention I'm even more curious to play it. A few more rounds of GT6 and I'll fire Folklore up.

I got Folklore when it came out but never actually got round to playing it...I always intend to go back to it. I played the demo and enjoyed it.

El Shaddai has a weird follow up game on the Switch called The Lost Child which is nothing like El Shaddai itself. It's a first person dungeon crawler like the old Windows 95 maze screen saver.

Folklore is an awesome game.

El Shaddai is stylish as strawberry float but I never particularly enjoyed the gameplay.

Started Folklore.

I finished the prologue with Ellen and like that I can now choose to carry on with her in chapter 1, or go through the prologue with the occult journalist, Keats. I'm guessing this theme will carry on throughout.

Gameplay is pretty standard, but enjoyable enough. Whilst I like the visuals I'm not a huge fan of the pseudo-animated comic strip that moves the dialogue and story forward, but it may grow on me as the tale unfolds.

Been a while since the thread has moved a long!

Who's planning to play some retro titles this weekend? Any new acquisitions? Let's see them!

I'm working all day today and tomorrow but have some plans for Sunday... Watch this space!

I'm heading to Shoreditch with the wife this weekend, anyone know if there are retro or indie game shops there?

Now that my N64 has a permanent home attached to a telly Im getting an itch to properly play some stuff on there but the N64 analogue sticks are absolutely terrible so Id like something a bit more modern. Has anyone tried one of those retro fighters controllers? Are they any good? They seem decent enough and the price is very tempting, just wondering if anyone here has any experience with them.

Not got any experience I'm afraid Rax.

I am getting an urge to hook up the N64 again myself. Especially some Ocarina Of Time.

Ive been playing the odd game of Pokemon Snap with my daughter, shes only 2 so she points and stuff while I play, it has gotten me in the mood to revisit some things and Id like to do it with a decent controller if possible.

I thought El Shaddai was incredibly overrated. I bought it close to launch and despite finishing it I don't think I was ever really enjoying it, plus I had no idea what the hell was going on.
