Developer: Nintendo EAD, Nintendo R&D2 (DX version)
Publisher: Nintendo
Platform: Game Boy, Game Boy Color
Release date: June 6, 1993

Wikipedia wrote:Link's Awakening is one of the few Zelda games that does not take place in the fictional land of Hyrule, feature the fictional Triforce relic, or the primary antagonist of the series, Ganon. Instead, the player's character, Link, begins the game stranded on Koholint Island. Learning that the island is watched over by a creature known as the Wind Fish, Link fights monsters and solves puzzles to find eight musical instruments to awaken the slumbering creature—if the Wind Fish is not awoken, Link will be trapped on Koholint Island forever.

Link's Awakening was critically and commercially successful on release. Critics praised the number of features in the handheld game and the depth, despite the absence of color graphics. Complaints included the limited two-button control scheme for using items. A remake called The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX was released for the Game Boy Color in 1998. The game features color graphics, compatibility with the Game Boy Printer, and an exclusive color-based dungeon. The DX version received higher scores than the original. Together, the two versions of the game have sold more than 6 million units worldwide, and have appeared on multiple game publications' lists as one of the best games of all time.

What I think would be an interesting idea would be to dedicate a night to beating one of those old school can't-save-so-you-have-to-finish-them-in-one-go games. Obviously this doesn't just have to be limited to that, but just a thought. A Super Mario Bros. 3 completion night would be Godly 8-)

Definitely up for something of this sort, though you probably won't find many folks willing to replay DK64 I'm afraid :P A shame as I kind of like it, convoluted as it can be at times.

Sounds good. I'm in, and put forward Super Metroid as my suggestion. A surprising number of people I talk to have never played it, it's very easy to get a hold of in some form and it's just damn good. Fits in well with the whole checkpoint system as well - you could just say 'reach boss x/y/z'. Long enough to sustain a decent thread, too.

Shining Force?

Available for the wii, 360 and PS3 (and GBA), easy to get checkpoints, and it's great fun.

:?:

I would, however, be up for Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Super Mario RPG etc. as well.

Naturally, I'm in.

I've still got all of these waiting to be played, so any of them would be fine with me.

Excellent choice, I never got round to finishing this on the VC.

I'll put Paper Mario forward, although if people would prefer something different this time then so be it.

Pocky and Rocky or Sunset Riders would be good.
However, most people probably don't have them, so some nefarious methods may be required.

Yoshi's Island?

I'm up for the original Paper Mario, but I'll be happy to have a look at other titles if that's not a popular choice.

I wouldn't want to play JFG, I'm pretty sure it would ruin my extremely fond memories, but I'd be up for DK64 assuming I can get my hands on it cheap. Or Tomb Raider 2 since I can DL that.

Add Link's Awakening and Abe's Oddissey for me, although I'd be already super happy to play Jet Force Gemini as it'd be the first time. Still laying around the house unplayed.

JFG is still awesome. I still go back to it every so often on Project64.

Link's Awakening sounds good. One of my favourite 'Zelda's!

I'd be up for that too. One of the first Game boy colour games I picked up was SMB.
