Selling my Amiga 500+ and a box full of games.

Contemplating selling my Dreamcast and Saturn, most of the best game likes Shenmue, SoulCalibur, JetSetRadio, Virtua Fighter, Daytona are available elsewhere, they've kinda lost their sheen.

Not so much regret selling something, more doing something. I tried to do a home upgrade on my Atari ST and put more memory in it. Unfortunately this required soldering a memory chip on top of the existing chip. I had absolutely no soldering experience and completely strawberry floated it up. Totally busted the machine.

As a kid, my brother and I cut up the boxes of our SNES game collection to use the screenshots and artwork as images for our own home-made games magazine. It was a project that lasted about an afternoon. The games are all still about, somewhere.

We never traded anything in for the SNES. The N64 was a different story...

Sold my Dreamcast and a bunch of games for £100 back in 2002. Regretted it ever since.

I traded in Diddy Kong Racing on the N64. It was the first game I ever got for that system.

Also traded my Game Gear and all its games for a single Megadrive game. That was stupid.

My Neogeo and the games I owned. Big Tournament Golf (sunfaded cover), Metal Slug 3, Shocktroopers 2nd Squad, Last Resort, Viewpoint and 39 other titles in 2007....for pittance when you look at what they sell for now. I fell ill, left my job and lived off what I had in savings but got iller so this lot had to go. Have the pics of it all to remind me Have purchased some AES games again and own an MVS now which is a damn site more affordable.

I gave my Mega Drive + 10 games to my nephew.

I sold a Neo Geo AES but never regretted it. I got a good deal on a machine and a few games when younger played the heck out of it and couldnt afford a new game as they were so darned much so sold it at a large profit (I was 16 and used money from my first jobto buy it). I do miss the arcade cab I had my MVS in though. When I left a bad marriage I had to leave the cabinet behind. I took the insides of the MVS and my 8 carts for it though but currently don't have a way of playing them. My MVS insides, all 8 carts and the cabinet they used to live in probably only cost like half what the AES cost and a third of what I sold the AES for.

Here's the damage then. Sold an N64, three pads, rumble and memory add-ons, and the following boxed games:

For a frankly paltry amount of store credit. Spent on GameCube games that probably got traded in at a loss too!

Ooooops.

I tried to start rebuilding the collection but gave up a couple of times and did the whole big trade-in again Once with a lovely clear blue console too. That was a shame.

Still, mustn't dwell on these things...

(I do now have a small collection of N64 games with a classic black console and four pads, and most of the games above I have on Wii VC where available. Hoping an N64 Mini comes along and fills in the blanks though!)

Though i didn't sell it, i do regret giving my Spectrum +2 to charity, had to at the time as i was moving house, but it is annoying that i no longer have one.

Still have some of my old game cassettes though.

It's threads like this that always stop me selling my retro stuff.

Back in the day, I sold my gameboy and all the games for about £60 to the local indie shop to buy psone games Links awakening, Tetris, all that stuff. I really regretted it, very quickly too iirc and I ended up buying another one and all of my old games back (different copies).

So the pain of that always puts doubt in my mind about selling things on. I want to sell my dreamcast, I never play it, but I think I'll regret it

Sold my copy of Melee to someone and then regretted it so I pestered them until they sold it back to me. That was maybe 10 years ago

If you don't regret getting rid of something twice a week you're not getting rid of enough stuff.

In 1999 I sold Tombi! For £6 in Pink Planet Games Exchange. I've made better decisions.

I didn't sell it but I left all my mega drive games bar one (cart only sonic 2 and thankfully my console) and controllers at my dad's house for about 10 years, i found out my step sister sold them all without even asking when only about 3 games were hers. Not only that but they weren't mine, they were my brother's.

I've bought three boxed games back so far which has me down about 40 quid but it was worth it.

The same thing probably happened to my copy of Pokemon silver.

Reading some of these hurt, I gotta say

I don't think I've personally made any disatrous decisions, but I did for reasons unknown to me now trade in several of my favourite games many years ago (including Pokemon Silver and Ruby) - but since neither of those games are exactly uncommon or collectable it's not a catastrophe
