Biome 3 completed

I really didn’t think I had it in me, but a very methodical trawl through Biome 1, and some decent pick ups at the fabricators meant I got past the boss with a genuinely tiny bit of health left.

Absolutely buzzing now :datass:

Not sure if the drones have been nerfed with the most recent patch, but I tore them apart in no time with the tachyon rifle. The robots that grapple you in we’re the biggest challenge.

Surviving by the skin of your teeth is the only way to win against bosses :toot: Well done!

You are now massively better than I am at the Citadel. (I just did a good sweep of b1 myself but then lasted about 5 minutes into b3 :slol: :fp: Totally lost my touch on this.)

I am fearful of putting the game down for any length of time for this very reason. I'm also really loving it again / still, so that helps as well.

The tower mode seems like a good mode to play on a less frequent basis (based on my limited interaction with it so far).

I'm really intrigued by the story. The revelations at the end of Biome 3 are pretty interesting. If I do ever get to the end I can't imagine me having any idea of what happened without some additional supplementary material.

I do have a theory, but it's far from fleshed out, and i'm holding it to myself for now!

Oh, and thanks! I'm not sure I would have perservered this long without the encouragement!

Yes. Keep playing this as regularly as you can to help keep your eye in. Especially after getting over this hump. And there are more words of encouragement but you'll likely see them for yourself as you keep playing, and I don't want to possibly jinx you in the least  so I'll keep schtum on them for now.

There was a really good fan write-up on the story on ResetEra. I'll see if I can dig it out later.

Grats again

Congrats on getting through the third biome! With the higher proficiency level you start with in biome 4 you start seeing some really powerful weapon perks in the back half of the game, so you have that to look forward to now.

I found the story really intriguing but yes, it is definitely one where you want to read up about it afterwards. Last time I checked there were a couple of different interpretations without a clear consensus.

I'm still playing Elden Ring so haven't tried out the Ascension update yet. Is the Tower purely score based or does it have story elements too?

It has story elements. Very similar in tone to the main games "house", but in a different setting (which probably links in with the main story).

And thanks!

These title updates are the best. And for me the dual sense haptics are way above those in Astro. You can actually feel the parasites wriggle on you!
Almost beat the biome 4 boss first time. But not quite. Hollowseeker just does not quite put out enough damage.

I actually *ignored* the Hs in my run this morning. Even crazier: I opted for that shotgun instead! (It had autofire and it was *amazing* for it.) Did the Hs have the portal beam? (If I had a Hs with the portal beam but a weapon a few levels higher dropped, I dunno what I'd do...)

Re haptics: I could hear my shotgun tentacles writhe and squiggle :dread:

Good luck on next attempt on b4 boss. How good was the music on that stage, though :msgreen:

Biome 4 done! That B3 difficulty spike was…. Insane. I made great use of an energy barricade, meaning the boss could not hit me at all in its first form.

Yeah, I have not unlock portal yet (I think, I get mixed up). Heavy calibre tachyon carbine one did the trick though. And yes, auto spitmore thing would be a great find. I never pick it often enough to unlock that though.

And yes to your spoilers comment. Amazing.

I think this might end up being a top 10 game of all time for me. Never thought I would say that about a rogue like. It’s just so rewarding.

What I didn't want to jinx you with earlier today: that buzz from beating b3 (how am I ever gonna beat that?!) will carry you through b4 and <REDACTED> :P

It shouldn't take that very long to unlock portal beam when it shows up. (I unlocked it first time it showed up for me, and that was in b3.) Not saying it's so good that you should ignore higher level weapons, but it's a great mix of direct fire (you) and fire and forget (the beams). (Fire and forget is great for firing ammo off and it doing damage while you concentrate on avoiding damage – Elctropylon Driver is probably the best for it.)

That’s a good tip - I will keep an eye out for it, cheers.

I believe unlocks from the tower mode carry over also? I need to revisit that at some point in the not too distant future.

So, Biome 5 seems to be a toughie :dread:

It appears I have to do
3 challenge rooms
in one run to get
the 3 keys
.

I am enjoying it though, and finding it less frustrating than B3. You seem to get in to the action a bit quicker, and new weapons and equipment make it feel fresh. Also, having one of those regeneration staitons (that use ether) in the "hub" is a nice touch.

Also, far more ether is dropping now, meaning I have to change my mindest on never using it to cleanse chests. I am also rolling the dice a bit more on risking malfunctions etc, and was rewarding with an astronout for my extreme stupidity bravery.

I just hope to god that
after unlocking the door it remains open to create a short run up to the boss if / when you die
.

It do.

Hardest thing about b5 (that's the snow/frozen biome, aye?) is that it comes off feeling like a bit of a marathon. (Partly because one of the routes is so bloody long.)

Thats the one, yes. Cheers.

Yeah, I think I hit that route first, and assumed they would all be like that, but then on another run it went straight form hub to door (almost), which was reassuring.

I need to do a bit of stratagizing i think.

The one tip I could suggest from one session of seeing you play (and so you may already be doing it, or maybe you just hate the idea of playing in a reserved manner) is that you could hang back a bit more instead of progressing deep into an area from the off. Because sometimes enemies will only spawn/activate once you cross some invisible threshold in the stage, so it may help you survive longer if you take out what's spawned first, and then move forward to see what spawns next. Though this isn't always possible and you need to keep moving to get away from the more aggressive and dangerous mobs.

Not a strategy but I think it may help in final stage: you may want to increase your screen brightness a little to help differentiate the mobs from the background. (It's needed in some areas more than others. I felt that *the* most difficult mob sometimes just seemed to melt into the background and I could only see it due to it spewing projectiles.)

Cheers, ad yeah your right, I do tend to favour closing the ditance between me and the enemies (invariably pushing further in to the level) than staying back. I have actually started being more reserved just recently though. I think it was because I had the auto repair thingy, so delaying was directly beneficial.

I should also add I was playing slightly differently because I was very aware of the potential to be playing too slowly and being a frustrating co-op partner - one of the reaosns I don't do online play much / at all.

Made it to Biome 6. Had to suspend my run as I needed a break, but I have got to a bit where I have to “find a way to cross the chasm” and have just killed a big bastard in a room where I am about to pick up another permanent upgrade (I think), that will then allow me to cross the chasm (possibly).

TBC….

Finally beat the Phrike via the co-op and it was a lot of fun! :toot:

I’m getting absolutely destroyed in biome 6. Finding it very confusing to be honest. Bit disheartened right now. Might be time for a few days break from it.
