- First run ended stupidly as I beat some sub-boss guarding the alt-fire upgrade but on basically no health, and I had a malignment to take damage on picking up items. I was stuck as I needed to pick up the alt-fire to get through the door, so I did it (expecting to die) and didn't! But then I figured that meant I was safe to pick up the other item the sub-boss dropped (thinking maybe it wouldn't kill you or something) and of course I dropped dead. I guess that upgrade specifically doesn't trigger the damage because it's a special permanent upgrade but oh well

- Second run I got the teleportation and house key upgrades and then died on the third stage of the boss.

- Currently mid-run in third run and doing badly (I blame my dog distracting me :shifty: ). I died in a random locked-in room but had triggered some replicator thing for all 6 of my ether which I respawned out of - right at the start of the run, so feels like a complete waste, but hey I know what it does now!

Seems cool but not as immediate as Hades. The things to learn are a little more overwhelming, and I'm struggling with the combat - I really don't get on with half L2 presses unfortunately, I wish alt fire was just a separate button.

Pretty sure you can map it this way in settings. And yes, I agree, it's far less immediate than Hades, but it is excellent in its own incredibly unique way.

I assume other buttons are all going to be used otherwise though, like L1 for grapple or something? Hard to remap when I don't yet know what some are for.

It's a specific setting to replace the half press if memory serves - not a rebinding of an existing button combination.

Started this over the weekend. I've made it as far as the first boss, but havent beaten him yet (so close though!). I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to playing it again later.

I was looking forward to playing another House Marquee game and it actually had more Super Stardust vibes than I expected. The movement, weapons, enemies, sound effects and colour schemes all reminded me of Super Stardust.

Yes, I'm very thankful that Housemarque's move into out and out 3D didn't lead to the discardment of their trademark flourishes.

Finally smashed* the first boss! Chuffed to have picked up a couple of permanent unlocks, even if their advantage seems minimal.

The second area is noticibly different. I came across a new tough enemy with the option to warp away, but as it was late in the day, I decided to allow fate to decide, and it's probably not a huge surprise that here I am, getting ready for bed! :slol:

Still, happy to have made it past that first level and made a little progress in the game!

I'm making slow progress with this now. I'm starting to get comfortable with the enemies in the second level, but I'm not exactly progressing with speed. I probably make it to level 2 on a third of attempts and it's slow progress when I do.

I missed Returnal.

Look back, it was a hard fought I went through and at the end I loved it. Once it clicked, everything was so slickly and amazing. :datass:

I got further than ever before on the second level tonight. Most of the enemies are starting to feel natural to me, but it seems that the turtle like creatures are currently my nemesis. I died fighting two of them tonight, which was really tough. The rest of the enemies I have down fairly well. It's all about movement, understanding their attacks and picking off the easy enemies first to clear some space. But those turtle things... havent figured them yet!

I finally got to the boss on level 2. I had a resurrection spare, but died on both tries. I didn't expect to beat it on my first attempt, but it was nice to at least meet it and start to figure it out.

Weirdly, I skipped through the first level in about 5 minutes and started the second with my opening pistol, but the weapons I picked up on level 2 were great. I'm always worried about moving over too fast and try to level up a little first, but I'm questioning that approach now.

You pick up a weapon proficiency item at the start of each biome that basically levels you to an appropriate degree. Its the health pick ups and artefacts / equipment that you are more likely to be feeling short of by "jumping ahead" and not scouring each biome in it's entirety.

Yeah, I would recommend to do the first Biome to collect the health and some items as many as you can to increase your health bar before going in Biome Two.

I think that's the best approach when you're attempting a real run at completing the level, but I think when you first unlock a new biome it's worthwhile to use the shortcuts to get a feel for the new areas, new enemies etc. and see how far you can get. When you're more comfortable with the biome then you can do a full run through the previous areas to beef up on artefacts, parasites, health and consumables.

How many of you made use of parasites? I wish I'd looked up some tips on the best way to utilise them because I largely left them alone due to their negative elements.

I did use some of them but yeah, I also left a lot of them behind because the negative effects didn't seem worth the buff.

Thanks for the tips. I entered the second level with my best ever setup, minus a spaceman or revive. Unfortunately, I was low on health by the time I got to the boss and going back and scavenging didn't play out as I hoped.

This game is frustrating.

Are you increasing your health pool?

Do you mean by picking up Resin? If so, yes!
