It was easier than the first boss.

Went in the third area and died somewhere half way through.

So good.

You're mad you are  But well done on beating 2nd boss all the same!

(It took me longer to beat first boss but that's because I was still getting used to the game. I beat second boss in fewer attempts but I still thought it was harder. Which doesn't make sense except for this: I only bothered beating 2nd boss once; first boss I took down many times.)

strawberry floating bored of this now. Made it to second zone boss and got it about 50% down. Would be happy to have another go but I'm just really tired of everything resetting. I wish there was to play this like a normal game. Rogue-like as a feature does literally nothing for me, I don't understand why it ever caught on.

Got past the first boss. It seemed to just click and was easy enough to dodge most of his attacks this time. Second area is very different!

First of all kudos to you for trying out a genre you are having a hard time clicking with.

My guess is their popularity took off because there's still enjoyment to be had despite voluntarily putting yourself at a disadvantage.
With Returnal (and I feel the same applied to Hades) you're never as fragile and unknowing as in the first few runs. The mechanics and terminology are difficult to understand at first, but it didn't take long for me to grasp what did what, nor for me to figure out how playing the game best suited me re progression. (Upgrade the pillar at the start to increase which items become available to me in runs; always get the HP and astronaut at the shop; always avoid the parasites; use my favourite weapons with my preferred perks as much as possible so I unlock the upgrades for future runs, etc, etc.) The other thing which helped Returnal was just how quickly I felt I was back in the thick of it after dying.

How many attempts on first boss? Well done on beating it all the same.

I feel like such a fraud for loving this game so much but never finishing it. The art style of the last level really knocked the wind out of my sails.

Fraud is a very harsh term! Especially when you previously got past a tough as nails level once before already. So yeah, you can legitimately love the game without feeling guilty about it.
I had huge difficulty seeing the hardest enemy on that stage (the one that can give you multiple de-buffs) and also generally traversing it on my 2nd time through. So I can totally understand someone feeling fed-up with it to the point of not wanting to carry on.

Cheers mate! Yeah, that one you describe was what finally broke me. Maybe one day I will Return(al).....

I would like to see how the story plays out. Maybe I could abuse the cloud save, I assume that is a thing still.

Not sure how you could do that without clearing that stage and doing what's needed after. Spoiler: you have to go through the levels again to pick up fragments of something (placement is random but you don't have to fight bosses again!), and then ... and here's the dick punch ... you have to do the final stage again.

Maybe just watch the endings on YouTube. You'll have more questions than answers

I cleared the game fully but this is what separates our experiences: l < a sliver of pixels. I was that close to dying on the final boss. I honestly don't think I had another run in me.

Thanks. I'm sure that in some way that makes the victory all the sweeter though. I know I only just beat the 4th boss because my alt fire recharged just in the knack of time. It was one of the most exciting, cathartic victories I have had in gaming for years. But had I lost I probably would have shelved it there and then.

I think it was about 4th attempt. Probably the first where I had full health going in and some idea of what I was doing.

One thing that made all the difference was that I found a locked chest in the very first room and left it until I found the boss room thinking it might give a better weapon once I levelled up. Actually when I went back it gave me an astronaut artifact which saved me during phase 3 as I hadn't seen that phase before.

Nice! And good thinking leaving the chest until later. (You never get inferior stat weapons as you make progress.)

Also worth noting - you can go back to your ship (once) to heal up in the 1st biome. Leave all the health powerups that drop and only collect them after healing up. That way they will all got towards extending you health bar (unless you take damage again). Health pick ups will automatically toggle between restoring health and extending health (sylphium / resin) depending upon your current health situation (not 100% accurate but a good rule of thumb for anyone not aware).

Reached the third boss, but I had a very low health and I couldn't find any health to recover and that goes the same for another random player. We went in and see what it was like.

Different, it was! :o

Holy strawberry floating Christ!

I was on an excellent run and I went to the third Biome with a random player (Level 64). We were on excellent form and we went in the boss. On the third stage I died and I couldn't do anything, but the random player was on fire and killed Nemesis for me without dying nor got hit by the boss! :toot:

Then, it left me on my own and I was on excellent run too. I was fairly confident how it went and I approached to the fourth boss! I thought I would give it a go to see how it goes and end up l found it was too easy. Managed to kill Hyperion!!! :msgreen:

8-)

Derelict Citadel and its boss are probably the 2nd hardest thing in the whole game, so very well done on besting it, BOR.

Hardest being the "boss" of the 5th biome?

It's the recurring enemy whose projectiles can cause malfunctions in 5th biome. The fact it's difficult to actually see the strawberry floater doesn't help matters.
