I think I'm getting better and I'm using my ether to unlock stuff at the start. Currently at 7 ether per unlock. I read online that 10 is what to aim for.
Love the assault rifle and pretty much everything about the game. Just wish I was better at it or that it came with a difficulty slider.
Could you please explain this? If I pump more ether into the pillar at the start, will it unlock better things?
When you buy something from the pillar at the start, you not only get it for that run but you unlock it permanently, meaning it might show up again in chests etc. in future runs. As you unlock more things they get more expensive, I can't remember if there's a set order or things unlock in a random order.
Seems to be random I think as I still don't have an item that heals me at a higher health level and I have nearly unlocked them all. Same with the cubes, I have two more to find.
Thank you. May try this even if it's fairly random. Phike is such a pain. Had a level 5 carbine and about 25% extra health but still couldn't do him. Would have got past if I had the astronaut but it didn't appear on that run for some reason.
Some assorted tips for the boss:
- Make sure you aren't using L2 to aim as it inhibits your movements, you should be fine to hit him just using free aim.
- Keep circling throughout the entire fight.
- Your dash is your most important defensive weapon and can dodge through attacks, often your instinct is to dash away from a projectile but doing this means it often hits you anyway, dashing through projectiles and attacks is much better.
- Try to get the timings of his physical strike memorised, it is fairly telegraphed so you should be able dodge it using the dash fairly easily if you keep an eye on him at all times. In the first two phases he does one slash, whereas in the third phase he will do two in a row.
- Assuming you have a decent alt-fire make sure you use it as soon as it refreshes everytime as it can do a decent chunk of damage.
- Carbine is definitely the weapon to go with for the fight.
- The shop will always have a healing consumable, often a large one, which are fairly reasonably priced. If you buy this plus the astronaut (which seems to appear fairly regularly in the shop) then you'll basically have three lives to kill him as the large healing item fills most of your health.
- Other artefacts to look out for in the shop are Leech Adrenaline and Emergency Repairs, the first restores health based on damage dealt if you have adrenaline levels built up, and the second slowly restores health when low to a max of 25%.
- Be careful with what parasites you pick up, some of the negative effects are just not worth it (e.g. I'd stay away from anything that effects your dash cooldown).
- Health pick ups change depending on whether you have full health or not. At full health they will always be resins which give you bars towards increasing your max health. When going through the biome, don't necessarily pick up every health pick up immediately. For example, if you've taken a bit of damage and there are three health picks up in an area, one large and two small, picking the large first will get you to full health and change the small pick-ups into resins, whereas picking the small ones first might mean you only get one or even no resins from the pick-ups.
