FIFA 98 and 99. Most FIFAs didn't even hold up when they came out but the "classic" games are almost unplayable now. By contrast the ISS / PES games from that era are still good.

EDIT: R1ing the keeper still holds up though.

Also, a spin-off from this is games where a lot of the information you needed was included in the manual but is nowhere to be found in modern digital releases. Phantasy Star II came with this originally but if you play it on Steam you're on your own.

Sonic Adventure 1 was pretty average upon revisit with many awkward Sonic 3D moments. Still a good game, but just barely lol

Ooh interesting. I really liked BG&E but it is one that I've actively avoided replaying for fear of having that memory tarnished!

I played the PS3 version a few years ago and it really doesn’t hold up.

The photography is still really novel, there hasn't been much like it since. The world really holds up too imo

The PS2-era GTA games have aged pretty badly in gameplay terms, especially the aiming. It's about as accurate and comfortable as trying to take a gooseberry fool in a bucket whilst on a bouncy castle.

Further to the Zelda comments i have recently finished Wind Waker on Wii U and thought it still really held up. When I originally played it on the Gamecube I got fed up halfway through and abandoned it. Hope they do a Switch port soon

Metal Gear 4. I love the series and really enjoyed playing this back when I got my PS3. But I couldn’t even go back through the introduction & cutscenes the other week. Was just too much & the gameplay is so different to V.

I can go back to 1/2/3 easy & get stuck in, V whilst I don’t think is as enjoyable as 1-4 again you can just drop in and out of it. But 4..

That bit was the closest we ever got to a NiGHTS game for the Dreamcast.
